The Human Resource Business Partner/Generalist position is responsible for performing HR function duties working closely with organizational business partners and HR team in supporting the Arizona product lines with complex, administrative and exceptional employee relations situations. As a functional leader and supporter, responsibilities include but not limited to the analysis, evaluation, implementation, coordination and administration needs, positioning Human Resources as a resource/advisor of all things people. This includes the proven ability to advise and actively attract, hire, develop, mediate and retain employees. Carrying out responsibilities in the following functional areas: recruitment, labor/employee relations, onboarding, HRIS, employee relations, training, DOT requirements and employment law compliance.

Essential Functions

  • Build relationships with Business Partners, Functional Leaders within Martin Marietta and Human Resources Teams to influence and support goals, objectives and initiatives.
  • Support leadership under the guidance of the Human Resources Manager to provide suggested development planning for employees.
  • Provide guidance to Business Partners on employee relations solutions. Including but not limited to good standing checks, development reports, exit interviews, exit collections, adverse background investigations, project/goal progress and process HR transactions.
  • Evaluate and analyze reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Assist in leading the staffing and onboarding process to ensure the business has the necessary competent workforce to meet customer expectations. Conduct new hire onboarding for all employees.
  • Support the human resources department by effectively conducting investigations that are attributed to employee relations matters and mediate or escalate appropriately. Ensure compliance with department records and reports.
  • Participate in the facilitation of performance management efforts including reviewing and updating job descriptions, facilitating efforts of core competencies, assisting with annual merit increase, goal setting and mid-year review processes. Identify needs and conduct assigned training and education programs.
  • Provide back-up support to the HR Administrator.

Work Environment and Travel -
This job operates 40% of the time in mining locations to include quarries, mines, ready mix facilities and remote offices. 60% of the time will be in a professional office environment. Travel will be 20% within the assigned area of responsibility. Out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.


Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree in human resources, communication, business administration or related field or equivalent experience related in the human resources field. At least eight years direct human resource experience.
