Description:

Markon is seeking a Chief Growth Officer (CGO) to lead our business development, capture, and proposal activities. The CGO is responsible for leading and developing our Business Development function by establishing a management framework for all phases and activities in the sales cycle. As the organization’s executive sales leader, the role is accountable for achievement of top line sales goals for all accounts and aligning sales and business development objectives with Markon’s business strategy. This individual will lead the development of win strategies, identification, qualification, shaping of opportunities and proposal development leading to the successful capture of new business. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of success in managing complex capture projects throughout the entire Federal Acquisition lifecycle from inception to award.

This position is a hybrid role and will require a few days a week in Markon’s Falls Church, Virginia headquarters and extensive travel to meet customers and partners.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Represent Markon and convey our brand and value proposition to senior clients and industry partners
  • Build and lead a dynamic sales, business development, and capture organization
  • Modernize, operate, and continuously improve capture processes
  • Ensure proper recording of all pipeline management activities across weekly, monthly, and quarterly cycles and present them at Quarterly Board of Manager meetings
  • Collaborate with Markon client delivery teams, subject matter experts and and Proposal staff to understand client requirements and translate those into compelling and competitive proposals
  • Build and manage an opportunity pipeline that results in new business sales wins
  • Recruit, onboard and mentor a team of Business Development professionals bearing quotas, set and track revenue targets for each growth leader ensuring the organizational targets are met
  • Work closely with Marketing to create collateral and marketing campaigns to generate leads and drive demand across all accounts
  • Become a trusted advisor for Markon’s prospects and customers
  • Nurture and share the Company’s vision and mission
  • Work around objections and roadblocks that disrupt business from its growth trajectory
  • Develop programs to drive achievement of revenue / EBITDA targets, build pipeline, and identify new business opportunities
  • Brief Board of Managers on pipeline and opportunity status on a regular basis including Quarterly Board meetings.
  • Attend industry business development events on a regular basis
Job Requirements
  • Experience building and leading a high performing sales organization for a federal government contractor
  • A deep understanding of direct to Government sales with a focus on complex end-to-end solutions;
  • Willingness and ability to travel when necessary to further customer relationship opportunities
  • Flexible and agile leader with great communication skills
  • Willingness to “roll up their sleeves” and collaborate with all key stakeholders
  • Proven ability to win new business in the full and open market
  • Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications are preferred.
  • Proven experience and results in a senior growth leadership role within the government contracting industry, driving growth strategies and securing government contracts.
  • Proven experience developing and maturing a growth organization in organizations with revenue in excess of $100m to achieve recurring organic revenue growth rates in excess of 10%.
  • In-depth knowledge of government procurement processes, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of the government contracting market, including key agencies, contract types, and industry trends.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully acquiring government contracts, with a focus on revenue growth.
  • Excellent existing network presence in the government contracting industry including key relationships with senior customer decision makers, teaming partners, competitors, industry groups, and strategic partners.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking ability, with the capability to identify, pursue, and win new business opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and proposals to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and market insights to drive decision-making.
  • Previous experience with private equity backed platforms is preferred
