Correctional Health Services, one of the largest county jail healthcare systems, is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatric NP) or a Psychiatric Physician Assistant (Psychiatric PA) for an exciting opportunity to work with incarcerated individuals. The Psychiatric NP or PA will work within an interdisciplinary team to provide integrated health care to patients navigating the judicial system. A Psychatric NP or PA working within CHS has the opportunity to impact people when they are at their most difficult times, giving the Psychiatric NP or PA a unique ability to make substantial positive changes in the lives of incarcerated individuals, their families, and the community.

We Require
One year of Psychiatric or Corrections experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and a valid, unrestricted license to practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing OR graduate of anaccredited Physician Assistant educational program with a valid unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the State of Arizona

Job Contributions
Evaluates new admissions to reach a diagnosis and treat identified mental illness
Re-evaluates patients under care to refine diagnosis and treatment as indicated
Prescribes medications following the CHS Pharmacy Formulary and within FDA guidelines
Documents evaluation, treatment, and other patient interactions clearly and thoroughly, and in compliance with licensure and accreditation requirements
Provides orders for emergency intervention (therapeutic restraints and/or emergency medications) when necessary for patient safety
Participates in the management of patients who require involuntary treatment including, but not limited to initiating Court-ordered evaluation and ordering the administration of involuntary medications
Participates as a member of the Medical and Mental Health Interdisciplinary Treatment team, assist in developing Special Needs Treatment Plans, coordinate with the Forensic Team for any patients in a forensic program, and work with the medical staff to manage medical problems, which may include providing basic medical care and participation in interdisciplinary team meetings
Schedules patients for continuing psychiatric services appropriate to the level of care and current acuity to improve and maintain the best possible level of functioning
Participates in peer review, in-service training, quality improvement processes, and other meetings necessary to improve patient care
Participates in the development of psychiatric protocols and clinical practice guidelines to ensure medical services are provided in a cost-effective manner that is consistent with psychiatric standards and appropriate for the correctional setting
Assists with preparation for licensure and accreditation surveys
Maintains licensure, certifications, and other credentialing
Provides coverage for all jail areas when need is determined by administration
Working Conditions
Must be able to work inside a jail in close physical proximity to others with exposure to physical emergencies, traumatic subject matter, chemicals, fumes, smoke, dust, wet or damp areas, stairs, and ladders
Work and social environment will consist of being constantly indoors in a confined area handling multiple or complicated tasks, a high volume of work, interruptions, time pressures, frequently changing tasks, unscheduled tasks and may be isolated in a dangerous environment
Must pass a fingerprint background check
Must possess or have the ability to obtain an NPI number by the time of hire
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a DEA license to prescribe Schedule II, III, and IV narcotic certification by the time of hire
CPR certification is required upon hire and the ability to get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift a patient onto a gurney
May require travel between work locations
