About the Position
The Career Advisor provides adult and / or youth case management activities related to the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) program in a variety of fast-paced, high-volume, performance-based environments throughout Maricopa County.
This position utilizes assessments, career coaching, job search assistance, resource referrals, and services to assist customers in overcoming barriers to employment, education, and training.
The Career Advisor has the potential to work at the Glendale location - 4425 W. Olive Ave. Glendale, AZ 85302 or the Mesa location - 1001 W.
Southern Ave. Mesa, AZ 85210

We Require
One year of experience in employment, training programs, case management, career development activities, reentry services, or equivalent social service programs
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, education, social work, psychology, or a closely related field
An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and / or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis
We Value
Two or more years of professional-level experience in career services, education, or social services
Job Contributions
Assist participants in developing career and education action plans, resume development, and job search activities
Meet with customers one-on-one or in a group setting to review applications and determine if the customer meets WIOA eligibility requirements
Assess participants' barriers to employment and arrange available area resources and supportive services as needed including transportation, education, and emergency assistance.
Provide and track referrals to program partners and community-based service providers
Advise participants regarding secondary education, post-secondary training, and permanent employment opportunities
Conduct and interpret academic and work readiness evaluations and assessments
Provide intensive, sustained one-on-one support and guidance to a caseload of up to 120 during a period of program participation
Provide labor market information on in-demand occupations
Conducts program orientations, informational seminars, and one-on-one sessions with customers. Create, update, and maintain accurate participant case notes and files
Conduct outreach in various Maricopa County areas such as job fairs, resource fairs, and other program events to create awareness of the program services
Assist participants with resume development and job search activities
Working Conditions
Work performed in a combination of environments including -Maricopa County Career Centers, non-profit organizations, jails, and detention centers
This position will perform community outreach and participate in career or education events in a variety of neighborhoods as well as indoor and outdoor settings on occasion.
Evening and weekend work as needed to meet program requirements
May require travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and / or private vehicles used on County business
Position may be periodically reassigned to various work locations based on business need
Must complete background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to successfully secure and maintain Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
