Maine Veterans' Homes is Hiring a Human Resources Specialist Near Augusta, ME

Job Description:


Position summary
: The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for supporting and assisting the HR Manager in the administration and oversight of the Home’s benefit and personnel matters according to MVH policies and procedures, applicable laws, regulations and standards. The HR Specialist will also support positive outcomes in recruitment, retention and the professional growth of staff.

Job Related Responsibilities and Activities:

  • May assist in the filing all human resource, payroll and benefits forms and other documents in appropriate employee files.
  • Maintains file information in an organized, confidential manner following MVH policy and procedures and state and federal guidelines.
  • Provides support in processing bi-weekly payroll.
  • Assists with special payroll and benefits projects upon request or as assigned.
  • In collaboration with the HR manager, participates in pre and post-employment activities.
  • May participate in new employee general and administrative orientation.
  • Assists the leadership team in hardwiring best practices in new employee onboarding.
  • Creates memos, presentations, reports and spreadsheets as directed by the HR Manager.
  • May assist with background and reference checks and licensure verification on all potential new hires.
  • Responsible for distributing and tracking performance evaluations to all departments.
  • Assists all supervisors in identifying professional development opportunities with staff members.
  • May assist in tracking employee absenteeism and counseling’s.
  • Assists HR Manager with Open Enrollment, Benefits Fairs.
  • Attends annual mandatory training sessions.
  • In collaboration with the HR Manager and recruiter works to rollout best practices in employee recruitment and retention.
  • Evaluates current and future practices to ensure commitment to the small house model.
  • Keeps informed on current state and federal human resource issues and informs HR manger on same.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned.
Required Experience:


Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products to include Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Good time management skills.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality.
  • Ability to successfully interact with all levels of staff, residents, their families and external customers.

Education / Training / Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates or Bachelors degree preferred. Administrative experience desired. Entry level knowledge of Human Resources preferred.
