Main Salvation Army is Hiring a Cook Near Salinas, CA

OVERVIEW:

The Cook will prepare meals for various Corps programs as well as oversee the kitchen and dining room areas. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure Kitchen is cleaned and sanitized at the end of each workday
  • Cook nutritious and well-balanced meals
  • Comply will all food safety standards
  • Prepare and cook meals for special programs and committees.
  • Meal Prep & Menu Planning
  • Ensure food is stored safely in appropriate containers. Follow a cleanings schedule for kitchen equipment
  • Ensure equipment is operating properly and report any service issues immediately to Corps Officers
  • Careful screening and creative preparation of donated food
  • Assist in the successful completion of Christmas fundraising and family assistance goals
  • Provide advice and insight to the COs, as needed, for the successful completion of the Red Kettle Campaign
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working in a kitchen (Preferred)
    • CA Food Handlers Card (Food Manager Certification Preferred)
    • Bilingual in Spanish (Preferred)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with limited or no supervision
  • Ability to work with other staff members and volunteers is a must
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to interact with volunteers and the public in a positive manner
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
  • Detailed in work and cleaning
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Team player
  • Goal-oriented and self-motivated

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

    • Relevant kitchen equipment
