Magic Leap’s internal manufacturing equipment team in Austin, TX requires a senior level mechanical design engineer to assist the team in the design, build, integration and testing of precision manufacturing equipment, tooling and fixtures. The ideal candidate will have some experience with electronics, software and be able to implement a systems approach when creating designs and solving problems.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with co-workers of many other disciplines to gather and trade-off requirements for equipment, test-sets, and fixtures.
• Collaborate with other engineers on the best implementation of electro-mechanical machine elements.
• Own a machine design project and be responsible for completion of all phases from conceptualization through delivery to the customer
• Create mechanical designs in CREO and SolidWorks
• Asses equipment issues, propose solutions, and carry out upgrades
• Assemble, de-bug, and test mechanical assemblies

Required Qualifications

• Team player who enjoys collaboration with co-workers across the organization
• Experience selecting actuators, pneumatic components, and sensors, for different functions
• Experience developing equipment concepts and selecting the best design with an analytical approach based on requirements
• Understanding of electrical control systems for actuators, sensors and their cabling
• Experience calculating tolerance stack-ups across parts and assemblies
• Understanding of metal and plastic part manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency with CREO, Windchill, SolidWorks and Microsoft Office
• Understanding of ECO processes, revision control and MRP systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with precision alignments and vision system feedback
• Experience designing assemblies with exact constraint kinematics
• Experience designing equipment in clean-rooms
• Experience specifying robotic systems for part handling

Education

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
