Senior Thermal Mechanical Engineer, Data Center GPU

THE ROLE:

A key contributor of the Data Center and GPU Accelerated Processing (DCGAP) Thermal Mechanical Engineering department. Architect and design of thermo-mechanical trade-offs and implement designs effectively. Apply out-of-the-box thinking on problem-solving for mechanical issues. Create products using technical judgement in thermo-mechanical areas. Complete engineering tasks with minimal re-design, and develop mechanical design objectives and project schedules. Work across organizational boundaries to define thermo-mechanical requirements, solve complex problems, and drive programs to successful completion

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for reflecting customer needs and company goals in the thermo-mechanical design. Research, define, design, and test mechanical parts to implement new features; and provide accurate user of modeling techniques to perform thermal modeling to predict temperatures of critical components using Icepak.
  • Create prototypes of the thermal parts and assemblies such as heat sinks, baffles, carriers, vapor chamber, heat pipes, and liquid cooling. Verify thermal and mechanical compliance per PCI-e, OCP, Telcordia, ETSI spec and criteria.
  • Evaluate thermal data collected from engineering and manufacturing test to confirm product conformance to thermo-mechanical requirements, testing, and modeling.
  • Provide tolerance analysis of high complexity and precision mechanical designs.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing), including experience with volume manufacturing, fixture design, design of experiments, instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis, thermo-couple building and testing, air flow measurement and thermal measurement, and mechanical pressure measurement.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

The Principal Member of Techncial Staff Thermal Architect must have demonstrated the ability to be a constant force for innovation and improvement throughout their career. The successful candidate must have experience leading senior-level engineers and will play a pivotal role in empowering and strengthening the core values of this team. Other experiences should include demonstrated accomplishments in growing, mentoring junior engineers, providing technical and career guidance, and ultimately building fully functional leadership teams. Project management of multiple technically diverse programs in parallel is required.
  • Technical Experience - Solid understanding of thermal design and thermal analysis. Semiconductor device physics knowledge is a plus. The selected candidates should understand and be proficient in the development of thermal/mechanical solutions at the silicon, package, and system-level for semi-conductor products; data analysis and characterization, optimization of packaging for increased quality and cost improvement of high-end semiconductor products such as microprocessors.
  • Thermal Modelling - Working knowledge of statistical analysis, thermal analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and multiphase physics analysis. Icepak and Ansys experience a plus.
  • Strategic Thinking - The decisions made by this position will have long term impact on the capability and competitiveness of the organization. As a result, this person must be skilled at defining and implementing strategies in a dynamic, high-tech business environment that involves significant uncertainty, difficult competition, and potential for new entrants.
