Clay on the Move Coordinator - Summer 2024

MSCR or Madison School & Community Recreation is Madison’s public recreation provider. We offer everything you would find in your typical community rec department in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming, arts & enrichment, adult & 50 fitness, sport leagues, outdoor pursuits and more. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District(MMSD), we also provide afterschool and summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools.

Program Description:

Works with and supervises instructor to setup and oversee the Clay on the Move Program in its second year by making clay activities accessible to all Madison families throughout the summer.

Job Description & Duties:

• Collaborate with Clay on the Move instructor to setup and implement easily adaptable clay activities in a variety of Madison parks.
• Organize, request, and maintain supplies.
• Communicate clearly with participants.
• Communicate openly with both Pottery Coordinator and Arts Supervisor.
• Create an encouraging, inclusive environment – all are welcome!
• Facilitate clay activities for 3-5 y/o, 5-8 y/o and 8 y/o to adults.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs of supplies or equipment.
• Drive 15 passenger van to 2-3 Madison parks each week.

Start Date: 6/3/2024

Program Dates: 6/17/2024 - 8/16/2024

Work Location: City of Madison Parks and MSCR West Pottery Studio.

Hours/week: 14 - 21 hours per week.

Work hours: 7 hours per shift (2 - 3 shifts per week).

Application Deadline: Open until filled.

Payrate: 22.00 - 24.00 /hour

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions.
• Must be creative and flexible.
• Must be outgoing and able to engage with a diverse population.
• Must be proven to be reliable and able to work independently.
• Experience working with clay.
• Understands how to store, maintain and reclaim clay for use.
• Proficient at throwing - centering, opening and pulling.
• Comfortable demonstrating how to throw on the pottery wheel.
• Must be comfortable driving 15 passenger van.
• Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience teaching pottery classes.
• Past experience working with diverse populations.
• Ability to communicate with Spanish speakers.

Must be able to work a vast majority of the following shifts.Shift includes prep time, event set-up, activity, and tear down of event:
