Track and Field Instructor - Summer 2024

MSCR or Madison School & Community Recreation is Madison’s public recreation provider. We offer everything you would find in your typical community rec department in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming, arts & enrichment, adult & 50 fitness, sport leagues, outdoor pursuits and more. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District(MMSD), we also provide afterschool and summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools.

Program Description:

MSCR's Track and Field clinic is for participants in grades kindergarten - 8th grade with a wide range of experience and skill levels. This clinic provides for many track and field events. We will focus on the fundamentals and skills of each event.

Job Description & Duties:

Youth Track and Field Instructors are expected to plan and lead a group of elementary and middle school participants, instructing them in the basic skills and fundamentals of the sport. The emphasis is on skill building, fun, fitness, making new friends, sportsmanship and learning the sport. Youth Track and Field Instructors are responsible for promoting this atmosphere while keeping play safe and fun.

Program Dates:

June 17 - August 1, 2024.

West side program: 6/17-7/31

East side program: 6/18-8/1

Work Location: Madison Memorial HS / LaFollette HS

Hours/week: 3-8 hours per week.

Work hours: 5:45pm-7:30pm

Application Deadline: 6/14/2024

Payrate: 18.00 - 18.00 /hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Track and Field experience typically from high school or post secondary experience.
  • Experience in youth leadership.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact when dealing with children, their parents/guardians, and the public.
  • Previous experience working with elementary and/or middle school aged children.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with the staff team.
  • Self-directed and motivated to create and develop engaging plans.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

Background in coaching Track and Field.
