23-24 Permit (Guest) Substitute Teacher
Salary: $182.34 - 228.69 Daily Wage

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) - committed to Becoming a Model School District, providing an Anti-Racist, Culturally Responsive, and Inclusive Atmosphere.
Permit (Guest) Substitute Teacher - Holds an active substitute teaching certification from WI DPI (3 years or 5 years) or holds at least an Associates Degree. Teaches and supervises students in the event that their regular teacher is unable to lead class. Their duties include managing classroom behavior, quickly interpreting and following lesson plans and creating reports to inform the students' permanent teacher of their success.
Daily Sub Pay Rate: $182.34; days 1-6
Long Term Sub Pay Rate: $228.69; 7 consecutive days in the same assignment.
Essential Duties: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other responsibilities may be required and assigned.
  1. Provide instruction to students, including:
    1. use of recommended materials
    2. Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
    3. effective instructional practices and teaching strategies
    4. various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations
    5. Instructing students individually and in groups, equitably
  2. Provide classroom management
  1. Establishing clear objectives and expectation during class time
  2. Establishing rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible
  3. Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  4. Engage students in meaningful ways to help inform classroom culture and success in learning

Minimum Requirements
  • Hold an active State of Wisconsin Substitute Teaching License or at least an Associates Degree
    • MMSD provides a paid Substitute Training course if you need to apply for your license
  • Copy of your official transcripts showing an Associates degree or higher in education
