Madden’s is currently seeking the position of Seasonal Course Hosts for the 2023 summer season. 

General Purpose: The Course Host is one of the key positions in the golf operation. Previously referred to as the “Starter” and “Ranger” the title of the service position on the 1st tee and on course has changed to more accurately reflect the job responsibilities purpose which is to “enhance the experience for the guest” Remember that you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.

Duties and Responsibilities:

¨ Serve all guests with a “Can Do Attitude”.

o Put a smile on your face and in your voice – Let the guest see and hear how glad and prepared you are to help them. This creates a positive first impression of you and our capabilities to meet their needs.

o Ask, “How Can I Help You?” – Communicate your willingness to help them.

o Understand the customer’s request – Your job is to listen to the guest’s situation and find out what they want you to do for them.

o Describe how you CAN help – There isn’t anything worse than hearing someone say, “I can’t do that…. it’s not my job!” There is always some action you can take to help them.

o Say, “Thank You.” – Final impressions are just as important as first impressions. Strive to leave the guest feeling appreciated and pleased they chose to do business with you.

¨ Greet guests with a warm and sincere welcome. Deliver a professional and appropriate presentation of the “1st Tee Opening Statement”

¨ Extensive knowledge of Madden’s on Gull Lake, Brainerd area, including but not limited to resort dining options, amenities, all golf courses, and directions.

¨ Knowledge of the rules and terminology of the game of golf. MUST KNOW basic rules: Out of Bounds, Water Hazard, Obstructions, Loose Impediments, Lost Ball, Ball Unplayable. Ability to advise golfers of proper playing procedures. Ability to develop and maintain effective public relations (sometimes under adverse conditions).

¨ Replace sand and seed on carts and on course 5,7,14. You are responsible for notifying golf shop when sand and seed supply is low.

¨ Introduce themselves within first four holes, and thank within the last four holes.

¨ Do not assume that golfers can see you; make sure that you are visible.

¨ Monitor pin locations and notify golf shop.

¨ Fix ball marks, replace divots, and sweep off greens.

¨ Pick up all garbage; you should never just drive past.

¨ Make sure hazard stakes are in place and visible, replace if necessary.

¨ While monitoring course rake bunkers and line up rakes outside bunkers.

¨ Check the cleanliness of bathrooms twice per shift; replace light bulbs, restock toiletries, maintain cleanliness of toilet, sinks, floors, walls, ledges etc.

¨ Make sure course host cart is stocked with first aid kit at all times.

¨ Assist outside service when needed.

¨ Uphold customer service standards

¨ Regular and reliable attendance.

¨ Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.

Education/Experience:

¨ Minimum of 1 year working in the golf industry recommended.

¨ Must be 18 years of age

¨ High school diploma/GED preferred.
