Maclay School is seeking a part-time Behavior Specialist to join our team. This individual will play a crucial role in assessing student behavior, providing interventions, and working collaboratively with Maclay educators and parents to support students' emotional, behavioral, and social development. The Behavior Specialist is a member of the Center for Academic Excellence and reports to the Director of Student Support Services/Center for Academic Excellence. The Behavior Specialist will conduct behavioral assessments, develop behavior intervention plans, collaborate with faculty and parents, and serve on the School Student Support Team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in behavioral psychology, special education, or a related field, with a proven track record of successfully implementing behavior management strategies in a K-12 educational setting.
Behavior Specialist
• Conduct behavioral assessments and develop individualized behavior intervention plans for students with diverse needs
• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to implement behavior support strategies effectively within the classroom and school environment
• Provide direct support to students through counseling, social skills training, and other interventions
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of behavior intervention plans, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure student success
• Offer guidance and professional development to school staff on best practices for behavior management and inclusive education
• Engage with families to promote understanding and support for behavior intervention strategies, fostering a collaborative partnership between home and school
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of student behavior, interventions, and progress
• Serve on the Student Support and School Counseling Teams and participate in team meetings to discuss and address the holistic needs of students
• Stay current with research and best practices in behavior management and special education
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Special Education, Behavior Analysis or a related field. Master’s degree preferred
• Certification or licensure in behavior analysis, counseling, or special education is highly desirable
• Minimum of three years of experience working with children or adolescents in a behavioral support role, preferably in an educational setting
• Strong understanding of behavioral assessment tools and intervention strategies
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning in the field of behavioral support and special education
• Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor
Physical Requirements:
• This position is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand -held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
• Given that the role may involve dealing with active student behaviors and providing consistent support across different settings, this position requires the ability to navigate school environments, including classrooms and outdoor spaces, with sufficient stamina to maintain attention and energy throughout the day.
This is a part-time (20-30 hours per week) 10-month position.
