Job Description

Position Summary

Mackin is seeking an experienced and results-driven individual to join our team as the Vice President - Land Development Services. This strategic leadership role will provide oversight and direction to the civil engineering, landscape architecture, and community planning departments. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional business development skills, extensive experience in contract and scoping, and a strong ability to manage budgets. As the Vice President - Land Development Services, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth, expanding our client base, and ensuring successful project delivery.

Salary: $121,000 - $193,500 USD/Year

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Duties

  • Leadership and Strategy
    • Provide visionary leadership and strategic guidance to the civil engineering, landscape architecture, and community planning departments
    • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to drive business development and expand service offerings
    • Collaborate with management and leadership to align departmental goals with the overall company vision and objectives
    • Identify industry trends, emerging technologies, and opportunities for innovation within the land development sector
  • Business Development
    • Lead and oversee the business development efforts for land development services
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and cultivate relationships with potential clients
    • Develop and maintain a robust network of industry contacts and strategic partnerships
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop marketing materials, proposals, and presentations to win new projects
  • Contract and Scoping
    • Lead the contract process, ensuring favorable terms and conditions for Mackin
    • Work closely with clients to understand project requirements and objectives, and develop comprehensive project scopes
    • Collaborate with leadership to review and finalize contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
    • Monitor contract performance and proactively address any issues or changes that may arise
  • Budget Management
    • Oversee the development and management of project budgets for land development services
    • Ensure projects are financially viable, and budgets are adhered to throughout the project lifecycle
    • Conduct regular financial analyses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement effective budget control measures
    • Collaborate with project managers and accounting to review and approve project expenses
  • Client Relationship Management
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, understand their needs and provide exceptional service
    • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, offering strategic guidance and expertise throughout the project lifecycle
    • Resolve client issues and concerns promptly, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction
  • Project Execution and Quality Assurance
    • Provide oversight and guidance to project teams to ensure successful project delivery
    • Monitor project progress, ensuring adherence to project schedules, quality standards, and client expectations
    • Review and approve project deliverables, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
    • Collaborate with internal staff to identify and implement process improvements to enhance project efficiency and quality
  • Team Development and Mentoring
    • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent within the civil engineering, landscape architecture, and community planning departments
    • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to enhance employee skills and capabilities
    • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement performance improvement plans, as necessary
    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes innovation, growth, and employee engagement
  • Contribute to the overall success of Mackin by supporting internal departments, providing exemplary service to clients, and striving to meet on-going initiatives to grow and develop the company

Non-Essential Duties

  • Participate in job fairs and career fairs to support marketing initiatives and talent requisition
  • Participate in professional and engineering society conferences
  • Contribute and serve on committees and subcommittees
  • Participate in research and development opportunities and projects
  • Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, client relations, and/or inter-departmental relations
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

Supervisory Responsibilities: This role has direct supervision over the civil engineering, landscape architecture, and community planning department management and staff

Job Requirements

System or Specialized Knowledge

To perform this job successfully, an individual might have knowledge of:

  • PennDOT Programs, and ECMS and BMS2 Systems
  • AutoCAD/MicroStation and InRoads
  • ArcGIS – ArcMap 10.6.1 or current
  • DEP/NPDES permitting requirements
  • Adobe Creative Suite – InDesign, Publisher, Photoshop
  • GIS Programs
  • Deltek Ajera
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Computers, Printers, and Electronics

Education and/or Experience

Years of Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in a civil engineering, landscape architecture, or planning field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education: BA or BS Degree required

Degree or Formal Training: Civil engineering, landscape architecture, planning or a related discipline

License, Certificate, or Registration: Professional Engineering (PE), Registered Landscape Architect (RLA), or Professional Planner (PP) license is required
