JOB TITLE: Massage Therapist
DEPARTMENT: Spa
REPORTS TO: Director of Spa
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time/Hourly
$17.60 an hour
SUMMARY: As a licensed professional massage therapist, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality massage and bodywork services to guests to alleviate stress, reduce pain, and promote overall health and wellness. You will assess clients' needs, recommend appropriate massage techniques, and customize sessions to address individual concerns. Additionally, you will maintain accurate client records, uphold professional standards of practice, and contribute to a positive and welcoming environment within the spa or wellness center.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform various safe and professional massage techniques and body treatments to address guests’ specific needs and preferences.
  • Conduct thorough client consultations to assess their health history, physical condition, and any specific concerns or goals.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans based on clients' assessments and recommend follow-up care or self-care techniques as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting treatment room environment, including sanitizing equipment and ensuring compliance with hygiene standards.
  • Educate clients about the benefits of massage therapy, proper body mechanics, and techniques for self-care to enhance the effectiveness of treatments and promote long-term wellness.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards of practice, including respecting client confidentiality and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Stay informed about developments in the field of massage therapy, including new techniques, research findings, and industry trends, and participate in continuing education to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain all products necessary to perform all massages and body treatments including towels, sheets, robes, products, etc.
  • Recommend spa products that fit the guest’s needs.
  • Uphold the standards of sanitation, sterilization, and restocking rooms.
  • Attend and participate in all team educational meetings and trainings.
  • Assist in all ways in the spa when not scheduled to perform services.
  • Adhere to schedule requirements.
  • Handle guest questions and concerns with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Suggest future massage appointments and regime to clients.
  • Practice safe work habits, wear protective safety equipment and follow MSDS and OSHA standards.
  • Perform other related services and duties as assigned by supervisor and management.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have a certificate of completion from a recognized massage therapy program.
  • 1 year of experience as a massage therapist.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with clients and provide clear, professional guidance.
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to massage therapy.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in various massage techniques and modalities.
  • Ability to assess clients' needs accurately and develop effective treatment plans.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a high standard of quality and professionalism.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and alternate shifts as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform massage therapy techniques with precision and control.
  • Strength and dexterity to manipulate muscles and tissues effectively without causing discomfort or injury to clients.
  • Stamina to perform multiple consecutive massage sessions throughout the day while maintaining focus and energy.
