TITLE: Housekeeping Public Area Attendant (P.M. Shift)
REPORTS TO: Director of Housekeeping
STATUS: Full-Time, Non-exempt
$18.00 an hour
JOB SUMMARY:
As a Hotel Public Areas Attendant, your primary responsibility is to ensure the cleanliness, tidiness, and overall appearance of all public areas within the hotel premises. This includes but is not limited to lobbies, corridors, restrooms, lounges, and other shared spaces. Your role is crucial in providing a pleasant and welcoming environment for guests and maintaining the high standards of cleanliness expected in a reputable hotel establishment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons needed to perform the essential functions of this position.
1. Cleaning and Maintenance:
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitizing all public areas according to the hotel's standards and protocols.
  • Ensure all surfaces, furniture, fixtures, and decorative items in public areas are clean, polished, and in good condition.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain cleanliness of restrooms, replenishing supplies as needed.
  • Report any maintenance issues or damages to the appropriate department for prompt resolution.
2. Lobby Management:
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the lobby area, including furniture arrangement, floral arrangements, and other decorative elements.
  • Greet guests courteously and assist with any inquiries or requests they may have.
  • Monitor the lobby area for any safety hazards or obstructions and take appropriate action to address them.
3. Corridor and Elevator Care:
  • Ensure corridors are clean, well-lit, and free from any obstacles or hazards.
  • Regularly vacuum and spot clean carpets in corridors and elevator areas.
  • Monitor and control access to guest floors, ensuring only authorized individuals are allowed entry.
4. Public Area Supplies:
  • Monitor and replenish supplies such as towels, toiletries, and amenities in public restrooms and other designated areas.
  • Keep track of inventory levels and inform the housekeeping department when supplies need to be replenished.
5. Waste Management:
  • Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables from public areas in accordance with hotel policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper segregation and disposal of waste to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards.
6. Team Collaboration:
  • Coordinate with other departments, particularly housekeeping and maintenance, to ensure seamless operations and guest satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to address any issues or concerns related to public area cleanliness and maintenance.
7. Safety & Security:
  • Follow hotel safety and security guidelines and protocols, including safeguarding guest information, keys and personal belongings and following emergency procedures.
  • Handle all cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines.
8. Customer Service:
  • Professional, friendly, and willing to provide personalized and excellent customer service to all our hotel guests.
  • Respond promptly to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints, addressing concerns and resolving issues in a timely and effective manner. Ask management for help, as needed.
  • Assist other colleagues with their tasks when and where needed.
9. Perform pre- and post-shift tasks and any other tasks & duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification a plus.
  • Previous experience in housekeeping or janitorial services preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift heavy objects, and stand for extended periods.
  • Primary shifts are in the evenings. However, should remain flexible to work other shifts, including days, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • A positive attitude and a commitment to providing exceptional service to guests.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision while meeting high-performance standards in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work in a team setting, providing support to co-workers whenever called upon for help.
  • Self-starter, excellent organizational skills, and ability to follow instructions and understand guest requests.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with workplace statutory requirements, including health, safety and security, and fire prevention.
  • Versatile, flexible, and willing to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Reliable, detailed, and compliant with time and attendance and grooming and dress code standards.
