LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICES OF THE NAT is Hiring a FT Temporary Cultural Orientation Coordinator until September 2024-Frederick and Arbutus Near Frederick, MD

Job Description

The Cultural Orientation Coordinator (COC) develops, manages, and evaluates cultural orientation training in Maryland or Virginia. S/he provides Cultural Orientation (in-class and virtual) to clients and monitors progress and compliance with the Bureau of Population, Migration, and Refugees and LSSNCA’s standards. S/he ensures clients' training and programmatic support results in provision of timely and effective cultural orientation services to refugees to ensure understanding of services and to foster self-sufficiency and community integration, social engagement practices, and long-term integration. S/he works to increase the scale of cultural orientation (CO) participants/classes and effectiveness of instruction for refugees.


Essential Functions

  • Maintain current knowledge of the U.S. Resettlement Program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all Refugee and Immigrant Services programs.
  • Assess and evaluate current CO materials.
  • Develop a CO needs assessment to analyze methodology, resources, capacity, and client understanding.
  • Determine CO trends through information and data collection.
  • Develop a formal CO curriculum and lesson plans incorporating the Center for Applied Linguistics curriculum and materials with locally developed materials.
  • Develop CO instruction and facilitate training materials.
  • Develop tools and formal processes for evaluating the instructional process and effectiveness of CO provision and overall curriculum.
  • Work with Quality Assurance Coordinators and Case Management team to understand and assist in strengthening current CO trainings.
  • Lead translations of instructional materials for CO clients.
  • Work with Community Engagement Coordinators to support the identification and recruitment of community volunteer presenters for curriculum topics that enhance community support for resettlement services as well as provide long-term connections for clients.
  • Recruit, assist in training, and coordinate diverse community volunteers to serve as CO speakers, classroom assistants, translators, instructors, and tutors.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications and Education Requirements


Education

  • Bachelor's degree (four-year college or technical school) required, in one of the following field(s) of study: ESOL, human services, social services, or related field

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Clean driving record.
  • A personal vehicle or access to a vehicle.
  • Successfully pass background check and drug test.
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination Physical and TB test.


Preferred Skills

  • Microsoft Applications (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Previous case management, teaching or training experience a plus.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
