Lutheran Social Services of Southern California is Hiring a Parent Partner (WRAP/Success First) Near Yucca Valley, CA

Description

The Parent Partner is a parent who is hired as staff and has lived experience with a youth with 

special needs or a child with emotional/behavioral challenges. The Parent Partner is to "be there" 

for the family, provide support, and build on strengths to promote resilience and recovery. Parent 

Partners coach, educate, resource, connect, empower, and help their peers navigate systems of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Parent Partner include the following:

1. Assists the Facilitator in teaching the Child/Family team members to find resources.

2. Assists at Child/Family Team meetings to identify goals and ideas. Ensure that the services 

meet the needs of the child/family.

3. Provides referrals and support services for the family/parent in meetings and other system 

areas.

4. Accompanies the parent/family in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings at the school 

site.

5. Provides in-home support services.

6. Provides transportation for clients/family in a company vehicle to and from meetings, 

services, and appointments.

7. Maintains their portion of the chart per the standards delineated by DBH, the program, and 

other government regulatory agencies.

8. Assists with the provision of crisis/emergency services.

9. Provides activities congruent with the goals and needs of the family and the Individualized 

Service Plan (ISP).

10. Promotes collaboration among families, advocates, mental health providers, health care 

providers, school personnel, and personnel from other agencies.

11. Facilitates parent support groups.

12. Provides other services designated by and only with prior approval of the Clinic Director.

13. Works cooperatively as an equal partner with other team members (Clinician, Facilitator, Parent 

Partner, TBS Coach, Quality Assurance/ Fiscal) to attain the best possible program.

14. Attends all assigned county meetings/trainings.

15. Participates in the rotating On-Call Schedule for the program, which includes the Family Urgent 

Response System (FURS) for the Success First (SF) Program.

16. Works a flexible schedule, with the ability to offer In-Person Services to clients during the 

evening, weekend, and holiday hours out in the field or at client’s residence.

17. Using the On-Call schedule for the program, be available to address the regular and emergency 

needs of the clients, including emergency response availability, call back staff, and offer support 

for in-person crisis response during and after regular working hours.

18. Uses the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to ensure all required documentation is entered 

accurately and on time. Be able to chart independently by 90 days after hire.

19. Maintains a clean and organized work environment.

Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines;

Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED diploma at a minimum.
  • Personal experience negotiating the system (e.g., probation, welfare, DCFS, IEPs, etc.).
  • A valid California driver’s license and 100/300 car insurance.

Language Ability:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Math Ability:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Excel Spreadsheet software.

Certificates and Licenses: No certifications are needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
