General Summary
The Systems Administrator II is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting and administration of the organization’s production voice, video, and data network infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to, LAN, WAN, VLAN, WLAN, Wireless Bridging, Telephony, QoS, Firewall, Physical Security Cameras, and Network Security Systems.
The Systems Administrator II will serve as the mid-level technical resource for network production operations. The position will be responsible for managing small projects that may include the use of contractor and or vendor-supplied support.
Essential Job Functions
Local Area Network Design, Implementation, and Maintenance
- Designs physical and logical local area network architecture.
- Installs, configures, and qualifies networking equipment and wiring.
- Implements changes to network equipment and configuration according to business requirements.
- Manages firmware/operating system updates to network equipment.
Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting
- Monitors local area and wide area network utilization and capacity.
- Monitors for indications of network based electronic threats and responds to suspected security breaches.
- Troubleshoots network performance issues.
Equipment Management
- Manages and maintains network equipment and associated software.
- Maintains inventory of network equipment.
Documentation
- Develops and maintains network design documentation.
- Develops and maintains wire plant documentation.
Systems Management
- Installs, configures, and maintains Windows Servers.
- Installs, configures, and maintains VMware / Hyper-V Servers.
- Monitors virtual environments to ensure optimum performance and stability.
- Installs, configures, maintains, and monitors server related backups.
- Processes, configures, and deploys windows client software patches.
General Duties
- Participates in an On-call rotation.
- Must be capable of safely handling government-furnished equipment and materials.
- Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
