General Summary:
The Manager, Safety is responsible for planning, organizing, researching and implementing LSI’s Safety Program in support of company policies and the ISO 9000 Quality Management System. The Manager, Safety will conduct safety audits for all LSI workspaces, with particular emphasis on the manufacturing area, to ensure all activities are carried out in a safe, accident-free environment in coordination with company, local, state, and federal (OSHA) regulations.
Essential Job Functions:

  • Chair safety committee meetings to resolve safety issues and ensure compliance with all company safety policies.
  • Ensure minutes are recorded and distributed.
  • Provide current guidance for local, state and federal policies and ensure safety requirements are addressed in B&P efforts (i.e. PPE, paint physicals, health hazards).
  • Monitor safety-training support (including classes supported by an outside vendor) for all LSI divisions and provide materials required by OSHA directives.
  • Conduct and monitor safety audits of work areas and manage audit team as required by Company Instruction (CI) or as requested by management.
  • Function as company local fire department liaison to ensure proper fire equipment is maintained and the elimination of fire hazards in accordance with state code.
  • Perform requirements as an on-site resource for all employee safety and health issues as well as conducting accident investigations.
  • Ensure criteria and procedures for the review of incoming Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to ensure they contain the required information set by OSHA.
  • Interface with the HAZMAT coordinator in development, implementation, and revision as necessary of facility level Hazardous Material (HM) inventory and Authorized Use List (AUL) and maintain the Master AUL for the activity.
  • Consult with HAZMAT coordinator and Purchasing Agent (PA) on all orders of hazardous material to ensure the least hazardous chemicals are purchased and provide cost data for hazardous materials purchased and disposal costs when bidding new contracts.
  • Assist HAZMAT coordinator to train and coordinate HAZMAT response team.
  • Work with HAZMAT coordinator in developing budget disposal and training cost in reference to HAZMAT requirements and ensure proper HAZMAT PPE is purchased and properly used.
  • Provide information, signs, posters, barriers and other materials to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Work with occupational medicine providers to obtain base line or post-accident tests on workplace exposures, as necessary.
  • Function as local liaison with Jacksonville Aviation Authority JAA to ensure proper local procedures are implemented and followed as required.
  • Update and maintain safety manuals and other safety-related documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be capable of safely handling government furnished equipment and materials.
  • Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.

Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of state and federal regulations covering all aspects of occupational safety and health.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and management skills.
  • Excellent English language verbal and communicative skills.
  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with supervisors and management to address issues and resolve problems of workplace safety.
  • Internally the Safety Manager will interact with all levels of management concerning employee health and safety issues.
  • Externally the Safety Manager will interact with, local, state, and federal safety representatives and organizations to ensure LSI meets all requirements set forth in current OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Position may require eligibility for security clearance.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Workplace Safety preferred, or equivalent high school diploma plus four (4) years of workplace safety experience.
  • Three (3) years’ workplace safety experience.
  • Must have completed or working towards completion of appropriate certification(s) in safety management.
