Louisiana Lottery Corporation is Hiring an Accounting Specialist Near Baton Rouge, LA

Compute, classify, and record numerical data to maintain financial records including Accounts Payable and Accounting.Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. Verify the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions. Work with members of the Accounting Department to ensure accomplishment of all accounting functions required by the Louisiana Lottery Corporation to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations while performing Accounts Payable and general accounting duties.
  • Operate accounting software to record, store, and analyze information, including checking figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, proper authorization and coding. Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records.
  • Assist/serves as backup to Senior Accountant staff as needed in the day-to-day activities.
  • Performs daily review and analysis of gaming system automated journal entries and imports the transactions into the general ledger. Reconciles monthly sales, inventory, prize expense, and prizes payable accounts. Prepares manual adjustments as necessary. Performs general ledger acceptance testing for new game software modifications. Forecasts unclaimed and prize reserve balances.
  • Records accruals and prepayments as necessary to ensure accuracy of assigned expenses. Maintains contract schedule and ensures correct accounting treatment. Prepares reconciliations of balances and analyses of expense accounts. Monitors actual expenditure from month to month and budget and resolves any general ledger account coding issues. Reviews monthly A/P Distribution to G/L and makes journal entry corrections where necessary. Reviews aged payable listing and resolves old balances.
  • Responsible for fixed asset inventory, including maintaining inventory bar coding system and listing of all depreciated assets. Records gain/loss on disposal of assets and proceeds of any assets sold. Completes monthly depreciation schedule and prepares journal entries for depreciation, additions, and deletions of assets. Responsible for complete asset count at year-end and reassignment of depreciable assets between departments.
  • Prepares schedules, statements, notes, statistical section, and footnote disclosures for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) that is submitted to the GFOA for the Certificate of Achievement program.
  • Completes daily prize check register analysis and reconciliation. Responsible for monitoring compliance with federal and state tax deposit regulations and initiating applicable transactions. Analyzes and accounts for investment portfolios. Monitors prize annuity investments, reconciles related general ledger accounts, and ensures accurate and timely annual installment payments. Prepares bank reconciliations for all Lottery accounts. Prepares general ledger journal entries related to cash and investment responsibilities.
  • Responsible for the preparation of all documents and supporting documentation necessary to comply with federal and state tax reporting requirements.
  • Performs other duties within the scope of job assignment as required or requested by supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in accounting or finance with thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.Two years minimum practical experience in general ledgers, Word, Excel, and Adobe software applications and working knowledge of fiscal analysis methods; equivalent combination of education/experience may be substituted.Ability to prepare and interpret complex fiscal records and reports, recognize problems and effective solutions.Review work performed by Accounting and Payroll Associates for accuracy and neatness.Good verbal and written communication skills required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
