This position is based out of Lenexa, KS but candidates can live anywhere in the state of KS or surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspects and monitors field work activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents

  • Checks lines, grades, dimensions and elevations using standard surveying and field measuring equipment

  • Calculates payments due contractors for work completed.

  • Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.

  • Ensures highway work zones and traffic control setups conform to contract requirements

  • Tests and/or samples materials

  • Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work.

  • Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

  • Additional responsibilities as needed

Qualifications:

  • High School graduate with some state-required certification courses

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and follow per senior level inspector’s basic technical instructions

  • Computer skills

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • KDOT applicable certifications are preferred; pavement concrete and Asphalt

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Work Environment

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stoop, crawl, and lifting. The employee must frequently lift and/or move light equipment up to 50 pounds. Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
