The Role Liberty Science Center (LSC) seeks a Part-Time STEM Engager to deliver highly interactive educational experiences across various science and technology domains. The STEM Engager will: (1) Deliver programs for adult audiences for After Dark (2) Present STEM programs onsite for weekend programs, evening events, and other special events; (2) Deliver interactive educational programs at community outreach events; and (4) Collaborate in the development of new programs with various STEM Education teams.The STEM Engager will report to the Senior Director, School and Public Programs, and be an accountable and engaged participant in the broader STEM Education and LSC community.What You’ll BringYou excel at speaking in front of large audiences and bringing the excitement of science to learners of all ages. Responsibilities include:

1. Engage adult audiences in hands-on interactive experiences and collaborate in developing programs for After-Dark
2. Present STEM Programs on-site for audiences of all ages, as scheduled; these experiences could include special weekend programs, evening events such as Member’s Night, Community Evening, and other Special Events
3. Deliver educational programs offsite for community outreach events and serve as an ambassador for Liberty Science Center
4. Collaborate in new programmatic initiatives and additional science content for LSC’s existing educational experiences
5. Establish an environment that encourages engagement and is appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of diverse audience members
6. Ensure that all programs are performed in a manner that is consistent with LSC’s approach to science communication.
7. Set up and breakdown programs and complete administrative tasks (such as making confirmation calls, inputting data into monday.com, etc.)

1. Knowledge of several scientific or technical fields and the ability and willingness to learn outside your area of expertise
2. Ability to engage audiences of all ages and learners with diverse needs
3. Skilled in presenting technical content that is entertaining and easy to understand by the target audience
4. Strong project and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
5. Skilled in working collaboratively with a wide range of capabilities and personalities

7. Ability to work independently and solve problems creatively

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

1. Pursuing a BA/BS in a STEM-related major, possession of an advanced degree is a plus
2. Valid NJ driver’s license is required; must be able to drive a car for 2 hours following directions from a map or GPS
3. Experience in delivering educational experiences in a fun, dynamic way

Classification and ScheduleThis part-time, non-exempt position is expected to be scheduled 20 - 24 hours per week. All LSC employees must be able to work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, holidays, and/or weekends, as business needs require. This position requires strict adherence to program punctuality. Travel to off-site programming requires arrival at the location at least 60 minutes (one hour) before the scheduled start of the first program.

Compensation & BenefitsThe rate for this position is $20.50 per hour. Liberty Science Center also provides perks for all eligible part-time employees, including:

​​​​Physical DemandsThe STEM Engager role will require working with guests of all ages, often standing, for extended periods while delivering programs. This role must be able to operate standard office equipment and work in a standard classroom setting. This role may involve walking on concrete floors, maneuvering through crowds, climbing stairs, bending or stooping to work with children, carrying/lifting/pushing equipment or teaching aids up to 45 pounds, tolerating high noise levels, and extensive public speaking. This position also requires traveling via a vehicle to off-site locations in various weather conditions.
