Controller 

• This is a remote position based in the United States; the incumbent will work in the Eastern Time Zone
• Compensation Program:

-Base salary Range: $115,000.00 - $165,000.00 (less applicable deductions) 

-Annual performance bonus

Position Overview:

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will help build a high-performing accounting and finance organization with best-in-class controls and processes to support the company’s growth while enhancing profitability and ensuring liquidity and financial stability. The Controller will manage monthly GAAP financial reporting, investor reporting requirements, BvA analyses, annual budget, monthly forecast and cash planning. Initially, the incumbent will work closely with the CFO and will eventually assist in building a small finance team. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participate in organizational financial planning and risk management.
• Oversee and maintain the general ledger and accounting functions and systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate financial accounts, including: 

-Manage the month-end closing process and ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly in a timely manner. 

-Prepare, analyze, and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to management.

-Assist the CFO with investor-facing and Board communications.

-Maintain accounting systems access controls and ensure control of confidential and proprietary information. 

-Manage invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll preparation and submission. Processes all vendor payments. 

-Conduct review, reimbursement, and reconciliation of all Expensify expense reports. 

-Work with BDs to manage annual departmental budgets and forecasts. 

-Work with the CFO to manage the coordination and completion of annual financial audits. 

-Coordinate with tax accountant on annual tax returns. 

-Analyze operational and financial data, investigate variances, identify business drivers, and evaluate their impact on planned objectives. 

-Interface with budget holders in providing budget reports and forecasts monthly; serve as a financial business partner to operational leaders. 

• Support the CFO in the development of a 5-year financial and strategic roadmap, focusing on forecasts, organizational build-out, cost roadmap and execution requirements of potential new acquisitions/initiatives.
• Assess internal control risks and recommend control activities to mitigate company risks.
• Support the development and implementation accounting processes and support improvements to accounting systems that allow company to scale.
• Support the CFO with overall financial stewardship, reporting, and compliance, including: 

-Manage cash-flow and ongoing strategic financial planning models. 

-Budgeting, planning and forecasting processes and improve reporting capabilities.

-Proactively suggest and implement cash management strategies to maximize Liberation Labs’s return while maintaining stability and liquidity. 

-Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards. 

-Establish, document, and communicate system-wide accounting and financial reporting policies; establish and monitor internal control policies and procedures.

-Support tax planning and optimization. 

-Support the company’s Treasury strategy that is critical to the long-term success of the business – cash management, capital raising, and risk management. 

-Provide accurate and timely information to facilitate management decisions and maximize profitable growth.

• Implement and leverage tools that track and support key business metrics and KPI’s.
• Complete other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

• 5 years' experience as a Controller is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as business, accounting, or finance, is required.
• CPA designation is required.
• Expert knowledge of the following is required:

-Financial planning and analysis

-Accounting, US GAAP, IFRS financial statements 

-Financial compliance for private companies

-Excel (financial modeling) and PowerPoint 

• Previous work experience in either manufacturing or life sciences is required.
• Strong financial acumen is required, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, accounting, financial reporting, and FP&A.
• The incumbent must reside in the USA and be able to work in the Eastern Standard Time zone.
• Ability to learn and use other software tools as required.
• Experience in a fast-growing start-up company is preferred.
• Audit experience preferred.
• Solid process improvement skills and a proven change agent.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and externally with third party customers and partners.
• Comfortable presenting financial results and communicating with investors as needed.
• Self-driven, collaborative, and results oriented.
