Lexington City Schools is Hiring a Lead Teacher Near Lexington, NC

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Performs a variety of tasks as a school-based lead teacher, specifically for increasing student achievement and providing support to teachers for the delivery of equitable instruction. Assists teachers and administrators in the curriculum, instruction, assessment, and organizational goals of the school and district by providing collaboration, consulting, and coaching services in an assigned school. Acts as a key member of the schools’ instructional leadership teams and works directly with principals and classroom teachers to provide overall professional development to teachers through demonstration lessons, model lessons, workshops, and during planning time for instruction with the direct goal/outcome being increasing student achievement. Position reports to assigned school principal. This position welcomes candidates with elementary and secondary teaching and leadership experience. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develops and delivers professional development specific to increasing student achievement. This includes implementing the balanced literacy and math plan and reading/writing across the curriculum, writing standards and benchmark assessments, the prioritized curriculum, school-based extra help for students, exemplary practice instructional strategies, use of classroom assessment to increase learning, organizational structures that assist teachers and schools in increasing achievement, and variety of other topics.

Attends and participates in school-based leadership team scheduled meetings throughout the school year.

Is a member of the school’s instructional leadership team and collaborates with other members of that team to provide a comprehensive approach to implementing curriculum, instruction, assessment and organizational goals of the school and district. 

Identifies innovative solutions for improving the overall performance of teachers to meet specific goals

Works closely with building leadership to improve culture and climate and promote teacher retention

Assists in the implementation and continuous improvement revisions of the balanced math and literacy plan and the prioritized curriculum.

Assists teachers in efficient, exemplary instructional decision-making through a gradual release coaching model that includes professional development, model lesson, co-teaching, job embedded coaching and reflective planning.

Provides targeted small group instruction to identified students to close learning gaps.

Provides consultation on long-term teacher planning through participating in PLC and instructional leadership team meetings.

Provides presentations and workshops to small and large groups of teachers (in Lexington City Schools and in other districts as requested) to accelerate the use of exemplary instructional practices to improve student achievement. 

Promotes the use of data for planning to close achievement gaps through specific modeling and collaborative conversations as well as collecting and analyzing a variety of data sources. 

Accelerates positive change in the school through collaborative relationships. 

Provides conferencing and coaching with individual teachers, grade level teams, departments, small groups across grade levels, and other content-alike educators in other districts as requested. 

Reviews, recommends and/or develops support materials to enhance learning and achievement. 

Provides requested classroom observation and offers feedback for improvement. 

Participates in all required staff meetings and curricular meetings. 

Completes all reports, memos, documentation and other necessary paperwork in a timely and professional manner. 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs other work related to school-based professional development as requested. 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree and certification in education and extensive evidence of increasing student achievement and/or performance of adults. At least 5-7 years of experience in classroom instruction with evidence of exemplary practice in curriculum, instruction, and organization and/or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
