Production Manager (Full-Time)
The Production Manager is responsible for managing an assigned region’s production and facility efforts, coordinating daily production work and supervising production employees. Using established metrics as their measuring device this position (1) Drives and Supports workplace safety; (2) identifies bottlenecks that impact daily production; (3) ensures materials are on hand and organized for future production orders; (4) directs work so that One Lex’s customers receive their product orders on time; (5) manages processes and employee training so that product consistently meet quality standards; (6) oversees activities that enhance facility and equipment performance and upkeep; (7) conducts workforce training; (8) establishes a culture of continuous improvement and efficiencies to eliminate; (9) ensures shop floor employees work in adherence to all Lex policies; and (10) assist with the correction of employee issues, attendance problems and work behaviors within their Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Champion Safety as a key priority for every associate, encouraging them to become actively involved in enhancing workplace safety as well as being alert to and addressing safety violations and potential safety issues.
  • Ensure employees complete required training, and that employees are properly trained for the jobs they are performing.
  • Responsible for daily and monthly production activities.
  • Direct processes that ensure products are shipped per Lex’s customer requests and meets appropriate quality and safety standards.
  • Ensure the team goals and objectives are in alignment with operational and business goals.
  • Develop and enforce standardized work practices within assigned areas.
  • Lead problem root cause analyses activities. Develop and implement action plans to address production issues.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles to influence the design of new assembly lines, 6S, visual factory and continuous improvement. Proactively identify and act upon opportunities to remove waste within the production environment and Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles to drive safety, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Create, implement and monitor continuous improvement initiatives to further workplace safety, product quality, delivery rates, and cost reduction goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate communication between various departments the facility to ensure activities are being prioritized consistently to ensure daily/weekly/monthly targets are being met.
  • Execute Job Order process by directing the production and Warehouse teams to efficiently schedule, build, complete and ship customer orders and stock orders in a manner that meets customer commitments.
  • Review and evaluate completed and shipped Job Orders for the purposes of maintaining accurate inventory and contain labor charges.
  • Review job orders at end of production and ensure materials and labor is properly accounted for and communicate and BOM / routings issues that are found.
  • Assist with physical inventories to maintain accuracy of 92% absolute variance.
  • Review shop floor metrics and take action as needed to ensure targets are being met.
  • Ensure production data is tracked and entered accurately in appropriate business systems (M2M, Pentagon, etc) as needed to support accurate and timely production reporting.
  • Manage and facilitate daily production meetings with group leaders and employees to communicate daily, weekly, and monthly delivery objectives.
  • Perform monthly project status (RAP) meetings with your direct reports. Set expectations and hold them accountable to meet project timelines.
  • Perform employee formal and informal performance reviews to equip and encourage reports to meet and exceed expectations
  • Train, develop and support Supervisors and Production Coordinators to grow to their full potential.
  • Team with company managers and supervisors to improve overall productivity and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to maintain employee compliance with company policies and procedures (including attendance and work rules) and assist with implementing/communicating disciplinary performance improvement plans when necessary.
  • Monitor cost items such as labor, supplies, etc. and ensure spending w\is within approved budget, and take action as needed.
  • Address LTO requests to meet customer demand.
  • As this job may involve driving between Lex facilities and other business travel, one must maintain a current, valid driver license and clean driving record as determined by Lex Products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Metrics/ Accountability Skills:
  • Track and obtain Labor utilization to meet or exceed established monthly and annual targets.
  • Follow up on labor variances exceeding 10% from standard and int corrective actions based on actual result.
  • Track and manage variable cost control to budget.
  • Schedule overtime to ensure premium hours are within established approved levels.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business Management, or Operations discipline
  • Five plus years of supervisory experience in a warehouse or production environment.
  • Proven track record of realizing process improvements utilizing Lean and Six Sigma concepts.
  • Experience working with production, purchasing and/or warehouse management in an ERP environment.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification from an accredited association and/or Proven track record of realizing process improvements utilizing Lean and Six Sigma concepts is a plus.
  • Experience in leading others and confidentially handling and remedying personnel issues.
  • Skilled in team building, monitoring and motivating others to meet group and individual goals and objectives.
  • Ability to multi-task while planning, organizing and paying attention to separate projects so that all are effectively completed within set (and overlapping) timelines.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain a good on-site attendance record in order to direct reports, attend meetings and quickly address issues as they arise.
  • Effective organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing and changing priorities.
  • Ability to keep confidential information.
  • Effective problem-solving skills from root cause analysis to problem resolution and monitoring.
  • Experience with LEAN methodologies a plus
  • Ability to work in a cross functional team, as well as independently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong computer skills, especially, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a working knowledge of MRP/ ERP systems.
  • Ability to travel on business as needed/requested.
  • Work is performed in both an office and Production/Warehouse setting.
