What you’ll do as a General Foreperson at Lewis:

  • Lead the team, including Asst. General Forepersons and Forepersons, ensuring successful production results and creating and a positive team environment.
  • Work Oversight & Safety
    • Plan and manage production, bid new work, understanding revenue targets
    • Work together with utility foresters/inspectors to clarify work specifications, coordinate work audits/inspections and address customers issues
    • Visit work sites frequently. Review the Pre-Job Hazard Survey at each job site; inspect work in progress and ensure it conforms to standards; enforce on the job safety practices
    • Takes lead role in safety to ensure the well-being of employees, customers and the public.
  • Personnel Management
    •  Ensures that employees receive training to prepare for job assignments
    •  Appraises performance of employees to communicate expectations and provide constructive feedback as a means for improvement
    •  Identify and develop high potential employees for leadership succession
  •  Maintain records and documentation related to man-hours; equipment and tool use; material inventory and storage; accident/incident reports; property-related permission and permits; customer records; labor disputes; and other job-specific records
  • Collaborate with the Corporate office for time keeping, billing, employee relations, contract support and recruiting

What you’ll need:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Leadership experience in the utility line clearance industry at the Foreperson or Asst. General Foreperson position
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of trees including identification, growth habits and correct arboriculture techniques for the trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining and removing, as applicable to working in close proximity to energized conductors.
  • Understanding of drawings and symbols representing types of lines, voltage, line equipment, etc.
  • Ability to perform physical labor such as lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. to shoulder height or more. 
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Have a valid driver’s license, CDL and/or medical certificate required for the vehicle being operated.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR cards.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and job duty skills tests.
