SUMMARY
Responsible to test custom engineered HVAC equipment in a shop environment utilizing equipment construction skills and knowledge of acceptable wiring practices and build standards, have a basic knowledge of refrigeration systems and operations which includes the ability to operate and troubleshoot all equipment produced. The ability read all electrical and refrigeration schematics on HVAC equipment according to engineering drawing(s).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other functions may be assigned.
•Responsible for building custom equipment on assigned projects.
•Uses a variety of hand tools, interpreting drawings, schematics, sketches, pictures, and verbal instructions to fabricate parts, wire panels and components, perform refrigeration duties which includes the understanding of refrigeration systems and common practices and procedures, the ability to recover/reclaim/charge refrigeration systems, troubleshooting of all components electrical and refrigeration in HVAC equipment.
•Fabricates steel parts as needed to support components; fabricates sheet metal panels and brackets as needed to create a finished product.
•Possesses the knowledge of electrical standards, build standards, and all wiring practices and codes required to perform all daily work functions.
•Completes assembly and wiring assignments on assigned projects on time, with high quality, and within budget.
•Assists team members of other trades as needed; performs other trade work when needed.
•Prepares for assigned projects by examining project binders, consulting with the project manager and other technicians, trade team leaders and production shop supervisor, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials, and coordinating work, as necessary.
•Maintains tools and equipment by inspecting for signs of wear and performing any needed periodic maintenance.
•Maintains work area in neat, clean, organized manner.
•Documents work by completing paperwork on each job, including daily time, quality check sheets, Traveler 2.0, and parts logs, test logs, unit ready to ship emails and equipment quality logs. Maintains project files. Forwards all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner to the next production work center.
•Effectively works with purchasing and stocking personnel and returns unused resources.
•Identifies parts to order for construction, testing, and repair of equipment.
•Assists with general office and shop initiatives as needed, helping to improve the business while controlling expenses and increasing income.
•Works closely with other project technicians, temporary technicians, subcontractors, project managers, project engineers, trade team leaders, production shop supervisor and interns in a team environment, offering technical advice, status information, and other help as needed, assists in training other technicians to produce high quality dependable Custom HVAC equipment.
•Communicates effectively with project managers and teammates regarding issues of project scope and schedule.
•Attends, contributes to, and/or leads meetings with team members, salesmen, customers, and management as needed.
•Follows company standards for construction and quality.
•Follows company safety policies.
•Promotes company safety policies to team members and subcontractors.
•Provides technical support, service, or training at customer site when needed.
•Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
•Flexibility to occasionally work in other company departments when needed.
•Flexibility to occasionally travel with occasional overnight stays.
•Participates and communicates new ideas and initiatives with all trade teams.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years HVAC Electrical experience preferred performing all required electrical functions. Knowledge of National Electrical codes as they apply to our business. Knowledge of refrigeration all refrigeration systems produced and the ability to troubleshoot all electrical and refrigeration components installed on all units. Possession of a universal refrigeration certification is preferred (Must be able to obtain within 6 months of start date, but prior to hire date). Knowledge of Microsoft Office software preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple and complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple and complex correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license, Electrical Journeyman license issued by the state of MI preferred but not required, EPA universal refrigeration certification preferred (must be able to obtain certification within 6 months, or prior to hire date).

This position requires working mainly in a typical semi-conditioned shop environment and occasionally in a typical conditioned office environment. The noise level in the shop environment is usually loud. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job required in the shop, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, risk of electrical shock (high voltage), and fumes or airborne particles created by welding, grinding, and painting activities. Occasionally, working outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, in extreme weather conditions, and in areas with vibration is possible. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and high, precarious places.
