Dynetics, Huntsville AL, is seeking a talented Mid to Senior Optical Test Engineer to join a diverse, highly-skilled team to create unique solutions for complex problems involving directed energy systems

Primary Responsibilities:

Work as part of multi-company and multi-organizational development teams

• Derive detailed system requirements from high level customer requirements
• Gather and development requirements of optical components to be integrated into complex systems
• Model thermal and stress effects of optical components and systems
• Prepare and present briefings and/or demonstrations to customers and management
• Plan and execute demonstration tests at US Gov't test ranges/facilities
• Integrate and align optical components into mechanical systems
• Perform tolerance specification and analysis of optical components and mounting systems
• Specify and characterize optical coatings

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.
• At least eight (8) years of direct experience designing and analyzing optical components and systems.
• Must have experience with the development, operation, and testing of directed energy or similar systems.
• Must have proven experience working with multi-functional teams in taking systems from requirement definition through design and implementation while ensuring project schedules and budgets are achieved.
• Must have experience generating, modifying, and using test plans for development, qualification, and acceptance phases of optical systems.
• Must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Possession of a Master's Degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university
• Experience selecting and integrating opto-electronics such as lasers, photodiodes, beam profilers, and spectrometers
• Experience with Optical component and system design
• Experience with Zemax, Code V, or similar .
• Experience with Matlab, or Python
• Experience with 3D CAD experience with SolidWorks or similar
• Experience with GDT&E

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance.
