Legacy College Prep Teaching Assistant
Legacy College Prep, a new charter high school located in the South Bronx, invites energetic educators to apply to the position of Teaching Assistant Teacher. The school is founded on the belief that all students, regardless of their previous education or zip code they were born into, can learn and achieve at high levels when held to the highest expectations. It is our mission to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education that puts them on a path to college graduation a lifetime of expanded opportunities.
The school will open fall of 2020 with four classes of 9th graders and continue adding one grade each year until we are a fully enrolled 9-12 charter school. We are looking for high capacity, energetic, detail oriented, and fun-loving individuals to join our Founding Team.
Teaching Assistant Job Description
The Teaching Assistant position is a full-time position for 9th grade. Teaching Assistants work part-time co-teaching with a veteran teacher and part-time working on curriculum for the next school year. The Teaching Assistant may also be asked to step in and assist with coverage issues and other school projects as needed. The position is designed to support other teachers at the grade level while being developed throughout the course of the year preparing to take on a full-time teaching position in the following school year. Teaching Assistants are responsible for collaborating with their grade level teams and assisting in anyway that they can. All Legacy College Prep teaching assistants are responsible for intellectual preparation for each lesson, building strong and positive relationships with students and families, using data to tailor their instruction, and actively engaging in collaboration with their colleagues.
Teaching Assistant Job Responsibilities
· Co-Teaches an ELA course at least twice a day.
· Works on curriculum for 7th or 8th grade ELA class.
· Supports teachers in assessing and remediating students.
· Steps in for any lead teachers or co-teachers when they are absent.
· Coordinates and organizes the support of multiple small groups of students as well as individuals.
Teaching Assistant Job Qualifications
· Unwaveringly high expectations for all students with the belief that every child should have access to a college education.
· Bachelor’s degree required
· Teaching certificate preferred or working towards achieving certification
· Organized and timely
· Ability to work collaboratively and with multiple teachers at once
· Ability to take and implement feedback
