Summary/Objective An Automotive Technician will perform repair work and maintenance for cars, trucks, and other motor vehicles.Essential Functions, Duties, and ResponsibilitiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Identifies mechanical problems, either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.Performs tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function; ensures that all critical parts are examined.Performs routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups.Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems, such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.Performs further tests, which may include test driving the vehicle, to ensure repairs are completed correctly.Prepares and maintains records and reports.Ensures that each customer receives outstanding customer service by providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards through quality and speed of service, solid technical knowledge, and all other components of customer service.Uses all shop equipment such as lifts, welders, diagnostic equipment, etc. with confidence and in accordance with all safety procedures.Routinely inspects, maintains, and makes necessary repairs and/or adjustments to machinery necessary for an efficient and safe work environment.Maintains leading-edge knowledge of automotive diagnosis technology, digital manuals, and reference materials.Adapts to rapidly changing technologies in the automotive industry, as well as in the diagnostics arenaKnows and adheres to safety and environmental standards and practices for maintenance/repair facilities.Assumes a high level of responsibility for meeting all OSHA requirements.Performs other related duties as assigned.CompetenciesStrong sense of integrity.Excellent verbal communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to thrive in a high-paced sales environment.Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.Excellent mechanical repair skills.Ability to follow instructions.Ability to use power and hand tools.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.Ability to read service and repair manuals.Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.Ability to read work orders.Supervisory ResponsibilityParticipates in the training of employees. Work EnvironmentThis job operates in an automotive retail and repair environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving technical parts and vibration. Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours or more per week. Hours of business operations are Monday thru Saturday and Sunday at various locations. Hours of operation and days of work may vary by location and due to scheduling.
