LEARN DC actively supports the COVID vaccine mandate of the District of Columbia Mayor's Order 2021-109. We believe being vaccinated is an act of care for the health safety of our greater communities and of each other. Effective November 1, 2021, all regular and temporary, full- and part-time employees and other adults working in person with LEARN DC must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to report for duty at our school. Fully vaccinated means having passed 2 weeks from the date of the last dose of a 2-dose vaccine (Pfizer, Moderna) or a single dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson). Exemptions from this vaccination mandate require pre-approval by LEARN DC Human Resources of objections based on sincerely held religious belief or certification it is medically inadvisable to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

Founded in 2001, LEARN is a network of high-performing college preparatory, tuition-free public elementary and middle schools with the mission of providing children with the academic foundation and ambition to earn a college degree. About the Opportunity

As a Special Education Teacher , you will be responsible for planning and delivering tailored instruction to children with special needs and co-teaching as applicable with the lead classroom teacher a portion of a class or a student.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and/or Experience

This job is a great fit if:

• You hold a degree in Special Education and/or State/District Certification or Endorsement
• You have 1 year of Teaching experience in special education; preferred 3 years total teaching experience
• You have a demonstrated track record of delivering gains in student academic achievement

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Special Education Teacher License/Endorsement as required by the state/district.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/TRAVEL

Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. Physical demands require the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, walk around the classroom and kneel upwards of 60% of the day. In addition, walking up and down stairs several times a day. Must be able to lift 30-40 pounds for short periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Majority of work performed in a general school and office environment. Position requires occasional participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.
