For nearly 10 years, Dog Tag has empowered veterans with service-connected disabilities, military spouses, and caregivers to find renewed purpose and community through an innovative business and entrepreneurship-focused fellowship program. Fellows gain business skills in both the classroom and in practice at Dog Tag Bakery, our Washington, D.C.-based social enterprise. The Fellowship Program integrates holistic and experiential learning, challenging fellows to apply their knowledge in their thriving, real-world bakery. Dog Tag supports our fellows, as well as our growing alumni network (currently at 260 alumni), with ongoing peer and professional guidance to help them successfully transition—both personally and professionally—from military to civilian life. 
In 2022, Dog Tag opened a second site in Chicago, and will soon host its fifth cohort there along with its 19th in Washington, D.C.

About the Role
Dog Tag is seeking a seasoned nonprofit executive to lead the day-to-day management of our team, operations, and finances. Reporting to and working in close partnership with the CEO, the Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our financial systems, people support, IT, facilities, and operations. The CFOO will lead and manage a full and part-time staff of 14 and vendors, cultivating an inclusive and collaborative culture, and ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to achieve their goals. Reporting to the CEO, the CFOO is a key member of DTI’s senior leadership team and participates in critical decisions regarding the organization’s strategy, people, programs, and partnerships. This position is full-time (M-F) and based in our Georgetown office above our delicious scratch bakery.
The top candidate will bring a demonstrated record of successfully managing and innovating the operations of a high-growth, fast-paced nonprofit organization. The top candidate will be a creative problem-solver who thrives on identifying solutions and focusing on what’s possible. A seasoned people leader, the CFOO must be a leader with a proven commitment to creating systems and a workplace culture that values integrity, inclusivity, equity, and teamwork.
Responsibilities will include: 
Operational Leadership and Innovation
  • Provide leadership and management of the day-to-day operations of the nonprofit and bakery to ensure DTI successfully achieves its mission and objectives.
  • Implement best practices and innovative ideas to increase the effectiveness of our internal systems, policies, and procedures.
  • As a senior leadership team member, serve as a thought partner to the CEO and advise on critical strategic and operational challenges.
Financial Management and Strategy
  • Oversee and support the Controller to ensure an effective annual budgeting process, clean annual audit, timely 990 filing, and clear, concise, and accurate financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with external accounting and audit firms and Board finance committee. 
  • Support board Finance Committee through materials development and meeting facilitation.
  • Create and present clear and accurate financial reporting.
  • Provide strategic thought partnership to the CEO and Board on all financial matters, including future forecasting and planning and risk management.
People and Culture
  • Promote and support a diverse, inclusive, and equitable organizational culture where every team member belongs and feels valued.
  • Oversee the human resources function and execute a comprehensive people strategy that recruits, develops, and retains a diverse and highly qualified staff and provides fair and transparent policies.
  • Manage HR consultant to successfully execute all HR administrative practices (e.g., payroll, scheduling, health insurance, 403B plan, annual filings, recruiting and onboarding, etc.)
  • Information Technology
  • Oversee and support the IT consultant to ensure DT is operating with secure and effective technology.
  • Assess the current technology infrastructure and identify opportunities for systems innovation.
About You
  • Minimum of ten years experience in a leadership role overseeing the finances and operations of a dynamic nonprofit organization, including HR and IT functions
  • Experience managing, coaching, and developing a high-performing team
  • Experience with QuickbooksOnline and Salesforce
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative policies, processes, and systems to optimize an organization’s operational efficiency
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Creative, adaptive, problem-solving ability
  • Collaborative working style with an ability to build consensus
  • About Location, Compensation and Benefits
Compensation and Benefits
The targeted salary for this role is $145,000-$155,000 and will be adjusted depending on experience. Dog Tag offers a competitive compensation package including health and dental insurance, Group Life, AD&D, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage, a Flexible Spending Account, retirement plan, and savings on transit and parking

This position is full-time (M-F) and based in our Georgetown office above our delicious bakery.
