Chief Financial Officer – Washington, DC Metro Region
Our client – a local, proven and diversified DC-area real estate property management & development firm – has retained CORDIA by Cherry Bekaert to lead its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) search. This is a highly unique opportunity for an experienced real estate financial leader that will continue firm’s financial and strategic success over the next 5-10 years. With roots and assets spread throughout the region, this client holds two offices in Suburban Maryland.
Position Summary: 
With support from CEO and Executive Team, the CFO will develop strategy to ensure the organization has the appropriate financial resources needed to achieve its current and future goals, while mitigating any financial and operational risk. Plays a critical role in finance, audit, cash management, and investment activities. Works collaboratively with CEO, COO, legal, and Dir of Construction to review all acquisitions while taking the lead on underwriting of all opportunities. Establishes and maintains controls to safeguard assets; documents and recommends improvements to internal financial policies and procedures. Serves as profitability and growth leader for the company.
Responsibilities:
• Oversees organizational budgeting, accounting, and cash management to ensure accurate reporting, interpretation of analysis of financial results in conjunction with forecasts and long-range plans.
• Prepare monthly cash flow statements and worksheets for twelve (15) companies/entities
• Prepare daily company cash reports
• Monitor and keep monthly account analysis on assets, liabilities and owner equity
• Serve as subject matter expert on family trust; Maintain trust balance sheets;
• Develops, completes, and oversees timely financial statements and reports on transactions, operations, and / or information requests.
• Update 10-year cash flow and sources; including signed new leases, while also updating S&U’s.
• Oversee annual property budgeting process and related financial reporting
• Provide financial data to investors. Produce partner quarterly distributions. 
• Ensures compliance with all loan covenants, reporting on the same monthly.
• Work with Development & Acquisitions on financial analysis and pro-forma preparation
• Provide leadership for financing and re-financing objectives
• Perform quarterly reporting on all publicly traded tenants in the portfolio (stock tracking and news for publicly traded tenants in portfolio)
• Update and distribute monthly mortgage schedule
• Update and distribute Cash report each week by COB Tuesday
• Oversees and updates monthly financials
• Participate in annual renewal of company and property insurance 
• Allocate insurance premiums and lead monthly billing process
• Manages and supports the preparation of the annual audit and tax returns.
• Collaborative with Executive Team on annual insurance renewals.
• Perform tax planning; assist tax advisors with trust, estate and/or gift tax returns and audits
• Appropriately operate software system to improve efficiency and accounting processses
• Assists Chief Operating Officer with IT/MIS/Systems management-related matters
• Assists in organization and operating of Family Office and trust servicing.
Accounting Leadership:
• Maintain inter-entity balances
• Maintains all Job Cost Reports monthly and update S&U’s simultaneously.
• Manages payroll, A/P and A/R
• Ensures deposits are being made promptly by third party management cos.
• Oversees accounting and reporting of 3rd party managers.
• Ensures third party managers are executing A/P and A/R properly and timely.
• Manage 401k deposits, handle loans and payouts
• Support CAM/RE Tax Reconciliations
Experience & Qualifications:
• BS in Accounting or Finance (required)
• 10-15 years' experience as a financial leader within a real estate property management/development company (required)
• CPA or MBA (combo is preferred but not required)
• Superior leadership skills and abilities
• Knowledge of tax planning (preferred)
• Experience with MRI Accounting system (preferred)
• Must be able to prioritize multiple short- and long-term projects 
• Experience leading a small finance/accounting department
• Hold a passion for the industry and a desire to deliver financial quality
