Position Summary We are seeking an Equity Research Analyst to join our technology team. We are looking for a team player with a flexible mindset that can enhance our investment expertise across the technology sector and who can increase the velocity of actionable investment recommendations that the team generates. The primary focus of this analyst will be in the small-cap area of the market (including small-cap software, services, internet, and semi-cap equipment) though this analyst will work closely with the entire tech team and leverage his/her work across our platform. Responsibilities of this position include performing in-depth fundamental stock analysis to generate ideas, communicating buy/sell recommendations for our strategies, and collaborating across our research team to drive our investment discussions. This position requires a demonstrated passion for investing and research, intellectual curiosity, exceptional motivation, and outstanding communication skills. This role will be based in our Baltimore office. Duties of the position include but are not limited to: Perform thorough, bottom-up, fundamental analysis of a company’s business model & strategy, as well as its financial position to assess the quality of the franchise, its business advantages, and the potential of the investment to create shareholder value Utilize a variety of research methods to gain a deep understanding of the Analyst’s sector as well as the prospects of the companies within the sector Collaborate with other members of the team and the broader firm to leverage the Analyst’s expertise into deep institutional knowledge of the sector and to help the team connect learnings and trends across industries and sectors Filter through a vast and dynamic investable universe to identify opportunities consistent with the team’s investment philosophy and process Conduct meetings with public and private company management teams (CEOs, CFOs, segment leaders), as well as key opinion leaders, in our offices, on the road, and over the phone to effectively and efficiently further our research process and to build long-term working relationships Build and maintain financial models and projections of existing holdings and actionable ideas Initiate and maintain written and verbal communications with Portfolio Managers focusing on the critical variables driving the investment thesis Identify risk factors (macro, regulatory, company specific) associated with investment opportunities and drive communication around these risk factors across the team Take a leadership role in mentoring, coaching, and developing other members of the team Qualifications 6 years of experience as a fundamental research analyst on the buy-side or sell-side preferred Industry experience in technology, or investment banking or consulting experience preferred Strong academic record that reflects work ethic, dedication to learning and self-improvement MBA and/or CFA designation preferred Demonstrated passion for investing Proficiency in understanding a variety of business models Strong analytical and financial modeling skills Superior written and oral communication skills Ability to prioritize and execute on multiple opportunities Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with our various sector teams and working groups Proven success as a member of a high performing team Ability to work in an office location Personal Attributes Proven leadership skills Commitment to delivering client value Commitment to upholding a culture of inclusion Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken) Commitment to continuous learning, self-improvement, and a flexible mindset Calm under pressure Ability to multi task and prioritize multiple tasks Entrepreneurial thinker; self-motivated with proven success working both individually and as part of a team Strategic thought process Results drive Benefits At Brown Advisory we offer a competitive compensation package, including full benefits. • Medical • Dental • Vision • Wellness program participation incentive • Financial wellness program • Gym membership discounts • Fitness event fee reimbursement • Corporate gym membership discounts • Colleague Assistance Program • Telemedicine Program (for those enrolled in Medical) • Adoption Benefits • Daycare late pick-up fee reimbursement • Basic Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance • Voluntary Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance • Short Term Disability • Paid parental leave • Group Long Term Disability • Pet Insurance • 401(k) (50% employer match up to IRS limit, 4 year vesting) Brown Advisory is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
