Lantern Community Services is Hiring a Residential Assistant - Audubon Near New York, NY

Status: Full-time

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Job Location: Washington Heights, NY

Reports to: Program Director

Hourly: $21.97

Supportive Housing Residential Assistant is responsible for assisting the Program Director in all aspects of supportive housing operations to ensure compliance with all regulatory and/or agency requirements, as well as funder policies and procedures. The Residential Assistant will be the initial face seen upon entry to our Supportive Housing sites therefore, they play a major part in the monitoring of the site while providing excellent customer service. The Supportive Housing Residential Assistant will be responsible for providing a safe, structured, supervised, and accountable environment for all the residents, their guests, and the staff. The Residential Assistant also helps coordinate and participates in in-house activities, including recreational activities.

Essential Functions

Lantern's Supportive Housing Residential Assistant ensures the safety and security of all clients, visitors, staff, and property. This is accomplished by performing the following functions:

  • Maintains visibility to residents by wearing ID badge and inspecting the site through regular tours of the site.
  • Screens all clients and visitors requesting access into the facility.
  • Enforces and educates clients on Lantern and funder policies, regulations, and rules with residents.
  • Reviews video cameras and monitors area consistently.
  • Provides crisis intervention and de-escalation to residents, when necessary.
  • Collaborates with clinical, building, and leasing staff.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation accurately throughout shift.
  • Completes incident reports with accuracy, thoroughness, and in a timely manner.
  • Submits all internal and external reports in a timely and correct manner.
  • Informs Building Management and Lantern Leadership of site's physical condition (i.e.
  • dangerous conditions, possible repair needs, supply needs, etc.).
  • Assists with unit inspections.
  • Assists with prepping vacant units for new placements.
  • Assists with facilitating and documenting evacuation procedures, (i.e., fire drills) as directed.
  • Perform administrative and reception duties at the front desk when needed.

The person filling the Supportive Housing Residential Assistant position is expected, under close supervision, to: (1) maintain access control and traffic inside the facility to maintain order and security of Lantern Tenants, staff, and Lantern's property; (2) detect and/or prevent fires, vandalism, theft, or infractions of the rules; (3) provide directions to visitors when requested.

The Supportive Housing Residential Assistant participates in special projects whenever assigned by senior management and performs any other duties, consistent with the goals and objectives of the program, as assigned by the Program Director, Senior Vice President, Vice President and/or Assistant Vice President.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, nights and/or weekends and overtime if necessary.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience working in related field preferred
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls, and perform proper notifications.

Work Environment: This job operates in a supportive housing environment and works with a population who may suffer from mental illness, substance abuse, disability, HIV/AIDS and/or other health issues.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, climb stairs and/ or kneel. Occasionally the employee will have to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
