Position Summary

JOB SUMMARY

The Screening Specialist will provide drug testing for clients referred to by Children and Youth Agency Supervisors and Caseworker. The Screening Specialist will follow all of the established protocols for drug testing and will ensure all documentation procedures are done in accordance with Agency policies and procedures, ensuring appropriate chain of custody procedures for all samples taken, recorded, and forwarded for further laboratory confirmation testing.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Screening Specialist will report directly to the Director of Quality Assurance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct random or scheduled drug and alcohol urine or oral screens.
  • Document results of screens and explain results to client and/or staff.
  • Educate and provide mini trainings to staff on Substance Abuse Disorders, drugs, relapse, and recover.
  • Provide recommendations based on client history, use, and needs.
  • Assess the environment and client to determine any SUD concerns or level of risk.
  • Support the caseworker and client in obtaining treatment information and resources.
  • Provide clinical opinion regarding safety based on observations of client’s behavior.
  • Assist caseworkers in assessing clients in order to provide clinical opinion on substance use disorders related goal planning.
  • Assist with referral and transition to another service provider as needed.
  • Provide a brief synopsis to caseworkers of impressions, safety concerns, and/or recommendations.
  • Attend court to testify as needed.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining drug and alcohol screening supplies.
  • Willingness to remain current and share updates on current SUD trends, resource and, trainings for staff.
  • Attend trainings and mandatory meetings.

OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES

The Screening Specialist will perform other related duties as required by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, or other social or behavioral sciences, and two (2) years of professional experience involving program development, program monitoring, or the delivery of program services in the areas of alcohol, tobacco, or other drug prevention, intervention, or treatment services or other closely related services;

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to develop skills that will assist in the identification of these factors in families and to interpret them for case disposition and planning.
  • Ability to complete clear, concise written and verbal communication as related to record keeping, court testimony, dealing with community professionals, etc.
  • Organization and time management skills to meet competing demands for client contacts, record keeping and related duties.
  • Flexibility and energy to meet the unpredictable and emergency nature of screening needs throughout the Agency..
  • Basic data entry skills.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening test.
  • Must have acceptable background check that includes FBI clearance, PA State Police Criminal history and ChildLine clearances.
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving history in accordance with County policy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Does not pose a threat to the health and safety of the department
  • Must have the ability to work independently.
  • Must have the ability to transport self to various locations for meetings, visits and other appointments.
  • This position will require the ability to conduct home visits and other appointments and to access those locations with reasonable accommodations.
  • This position has been identified as having the potential for exposure to Hepatitis B. Access to training and a voluntary vaccination against Hepatitis B is provided.
