Lakefield Veterinary Group is Hiring a Veterinary Assistant Near Phoenix, AZ

The Pet Wellness Center is a full-service animal hospital seeking add a motivated Veterinary Technician/Assistant who will serve as an advocate to ensure all clients have a WOW experience in all aspects of client and patient care visit. As a team member with Pet Wellness the work schedule will include weekly daytime, possible returning in the future to Saturday hours from 8am to 1pm and some holidays. You must have flexible availability.

You must be able to manage multiple tasks while demonstrating a high level of initiative, teamwork, and customer service. The position we are offering is for full time hours and may or may require a fluctuating schedule. Previous Veterinary experience required.

Professional Licenses/Certifications:
•Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program preferred
Experience:
•One year of experience in a pet care setting preferred
Skills, Ability and Knowledge:
•Broad knowledge of animal science
•Basic knowledge of pharmacology
•Proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word and industry internet sites
•Basic written, verbal, and active listening communication skills with a customer-oriented approach
•Basic mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses
•Basic analytical, critical thinking, judgement, and problem-solving skills
•Compassion and empathy for both pets and pet owners
•Interact with a variety of clients and employees in a professional, caring, compassionate, and tactful manner
•Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
•Strong organizational and time management skills, including managing multiple priorities
•Handle and maintain sensitive and confidential information with discretion
•Maintain a calm demeanor in a work environment that fluctuates from orderly to fast paced and stressful

Plus would be:

  • Can give SQ, IM and IV injections.
  • Can explain necessary follow up and homecare instructions.
  • Understands usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs and can readily explain them to the clients.
  • Has understanding of common pet emergency symptoms, and can assist in triaging patients.
  • Can assist the veterinarian in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; administers anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids.
  • Can properly care for all surgical materials; keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery.
  • Can perform emergency procedures such as control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways, and external cardiac massage under vet supervision.

Join our team at Desert Hills Animal Clinic, We, are small animal practice, located between I-17 & Cave Creek, in the scenic hills of north Phoenix. We're on the lookout for a dedicated, dependable, and enthusiastic animal lover to become a valuable part of our team. With three full-time and two part time veterinarians, a dedicated support staff of experienced technicians, we're excited to welcome a new member who shares our passion for exceptional pet care.

In this position your primary role will be supporting our doctors by assisting with procedures and services, establishing a rapport with our clients and patients. We are looking for someone who shares our passionfor FUN, LEARNING, RESPECT, WOW SERVICE and DO THE RIGHT THING.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Restraining and assisting in patient appointments

  • Assisttheveterinarian with procedures

  • Clean and disinfect kennels, exams rooms, procedure areas, and more

  • Gather patient history and vitals

  • Assist with monitoring patients during procedures with sedation and anesthesia

  • Filling prescriptions

  • Assist with blood draws, IV catheter placement, and SQ and IM injections

  • Providing compassionate care for all patients

  • Perform clerical duties to maintain effective office operations; maintaining medical records

  • Managing room and patient flow, aiding the doctors in efficiency

  • Helping maintain hospital inventory, stocking, and cleaning

  • Client Education (education to help manage their pets' optimal health)

This position is ideal for someone who likes to be busy and has a variety of duties and responsibilities. This position requires adaptability, innovative thinking, and interpersonal skills to be successful in a team environment. 

Experience, Education and/or Training Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • One year of previous on-the-job training and animal care experience required

  • Maintain a quick pace in a bustling office environment, showcasing the ability to work independently.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a similar role as an assistant, technician, or customer service representative is preferred.
  • Strong soft skills for effective customer service.
  • Willingness to cross-train for various responsibilities.
