Description
Manage technical and operations staff on a variety of projects, which will improve quality, yields, or address any other areas identified by the company to enhance products or production processes. Introduce new products or processes into production developed in the Research & Development Group. Organize plant trials, interpreting the results and assisting in process development. Work with plant operations and engineering in conducting feasibility studies pertaining to new product development and product improvement. Research all aspects of manufacturing of the company products, including raw materials, production techniques, specifications, packaging, shelf life, etc. Explore and evaluate ways to improve all aspects of production. Participate in Quality Assurance activities involving any number of issues and concerns such as HACCP analysis, good manufacturing practices, labeling, standards of identity, etc. Coordinate all support activities including maintaining complex technical notes and records of activity. Participate in patent activity and ensure that all findings are properly documented and recorded. Develop and maintain both industry and academic contacts to remain current in regard to technical developments. This will include presenting technical papers and active participation in trade groups and associations. Provide training and development of R&D Technicians. Assist Research Scientist-I by proposing and organizing pilot plant trials, and increase their technical skills. Work closely with and develop good relationships with other departments including Marketing, Purchasing, Packaging, QA, Legal, and Global-R&D (Retiers). Requires traveling up to 50% of the time.
Requires a Master’s degree (or U.S. equivalent) in Dairy or Food Science plus one year of experience as a Research Scientist, Quality Assurance Officer, or Graduate Research Assistant.
