LA28 is Hiring a Sr. Manager, Venue Development Near Los Angeles, CA

The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

Sr. Manager, Venue Development:

The Games Planning & Delivery group aims to deliver the most seamless, innovative, and engaging Games experience ever for all athletes, fans, partners, and the community. The Games Planning & Delivery team is currently organized in four key areas including Venue Infrastructure, Venue Management, Revenue & Commercial, and Games Operations, but will expand to over 30 functional areas by Games time. 

The Venue Infrastructure team is responsible for delivering the competition and non-competition venues fit-for-purpose for the preparation and staging of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This department is responsible for managing the design, development, program management, construction, maintenance and removal of all Games infrastructure in existing and fully temporary venues.

Reporting to the Director, Venue Development, the Senior Manager, Venue Development will be responsible for supporting the development, management and execution of the venue design process including the oversight of internal stakeholders and external partners and consultants. This role will support the cross functional planning required to progress venue design with the broader team. In order to progress this planning, this role will liaise between internal departments, external stakeholders, partner entities, and consultants to develop and refine the venue masterplan and detailed venue designs for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Key Responsibilities:

Masterplan Strategy & Design Development

  • Support on the development of a business plan for the venue development function, including strategic vision, resourcing plans, work-planning, stakeholder management, etc.
  • Assist in the management of the design development strategy and process for all competition and non-competition venues across the Olympic and Paralympic Games plans
  • Support the integration of internal stakeholders with external delivery partners, including architecture, engineering and overlay resources to ensure a coordinated process
  • Facilitate an approvals and review process for all internal and external stakeholders involved in establishing venue technical requirements for Games overlay
  • Ensure a robust, data-driven approach to venue design and masterplan optimization
  • Provide design support for required venues to deliver fit-for-purpose and cost effective solutions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Establish close working relationships with key functional areas (especially Venue Management, Hospitality & Ticketing, Games Operations, etc.) to ensure the venue design development process aligns with cross-functional planning timelines and objectives
  • Work with the IOC and IPC to understand all requirements, get strategic buy-in, and expedite approval processes where necessary
  • Closely align with the Infrastructure Program Management Sub-function to ensure coordinated planning for all venue design and delivery milestones and deliverables
  • Problem solve and negotiate with stakeholders to get the best outcomes
  • Directly supervise sub-functions and hire, train motivate department staff
  • Develop and adhere to departmental budget with clear steps to implement, monitor, and appropriately measure deliverables

Background & Qualifications

Expectations:

  • Minimum 7-years of relevant industry experience
  • Familiarity with temporary infrastructure projects in addition to permanent construction
  • Experience in developing or contributing to DEIB programs or initiatives within organizations
  • Experience in centering accessibility and universal design in venue development processes, with an emphasis on the needs of athletes, employees, and attendees with disabilities
  • Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders and proven success at building excellent working relationships
  • Experience working with senior executives across multiple functional areas
  • Excellent leadership skills with track record of people development Extremely detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication, team building, and interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to resolve issues
  • Fluent working with Office suite products including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Self-starter with experience in defining tasks, seeking feedback, and evolving work where applicable
  • A collaborative mindset; someone who prioritizes the team and fosters a culture of high performance without ego
  • An innovative viewpoint, challenging the status quo and thinking ahead to future years of the Movement
  • Ability to implement and manage change effectively as well as manage and mitigate risk
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial accountability

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

The annual base salary range for this position is $115,000.00 - $130,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.

LA28 does not provide relocation assistance.
