LA28 is Hiring a Director, Village Management Near Los Angeles, CA

The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

Director, Village Management:

Working in close collaboration with all venue-related functional areas, the Venue Management team is responsible for managing and integrating the operational planning and event delivery for all Games competition and non-competition venues (including the Olympic & Paralympic Village). As part of that process, the team is also responsible for managing all venue partner relationships and for leading the negotiation process for all venue use agreements. In addition, the team is responsible for the planning and delivery of both venue event services and cleaning & waste. The Venue Management team is one of several key operating areas (including Venue Infrastructure, Games Operations, and Games Delivery Revenue) that make up the Games Planning & Delivery group.

Reporting to the VP, Venue Management & Event Delivery, the Director, Village Management will be responsible for the operational planning and delivery of all facilities, services, and other operations at the Olympic and Paralympic Village to be hosted at UCLA, as well as additional satellite village locations. In operation for approximately 50 days in total, the Village will host more than 17,000 athletes and officials during the Olympic Games and a further 8,000 during the Paralympic Games. The role will be responsible for ensuring full functional area integration and will lead an extensive Villages team at Games-time. The role will require significant stakeholder management, and major planning and operational delivery experience. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and refinement of the Village design, concept, and operational plans for the Olympic and Paralympic Village and Satellite Villages, ensuring alignment with the overarching vision while focusing on optimizing athlete experience and accessibility through effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Lead stakeholder management for all Village planning and operations including managing relationships with UCLA, IOC, IPC and other Satellite Village venue partners.
  • Directly manage multiple sub-functions including village operations, services, facilities management, and administration.
  • Develop, refine, and manage the Villages budget including identification of risks, efficiencies, and opportunities.
  • Working closely with UCLA and other stakeholders, optimize the utilization and allocation of resources to streamline and integrate operational delivery and maximize efficiencies.
  • Negotiate and manage agreements for venue use and service delivery in collaboration with functional areas.
  • Collaborate with venue partners to identify and prepare for games-time displacement.
  • Develop comprehensive accessibility plans for Paralympic athletes and officials ensuring full inclusivity across all facilities and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with related functional areas and the readiness team to validate Village requirements, identify issues, and develop optimized solutions, including designing and developing a comprehensive testing and readiness plan for all Village operations.
  • Lead the recruitment and training of a diverse, high-performing Villages team equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and capabilities to develop and execute plans efficiently and effectively.
  • Oversee Games-time Village operations and the Villages team to ensure a seamless, safe, secure experience for all residents by providing flawless service support and by promptly addressing and resolving stakeholder issues.
  • Plan and execute efficient transitions from Olympic to Paralympic Village operations and the move out, decommissioning, restoration, and hand back to the venue partners upon the end of operational activities.
  • Ensure DEIB principles are integrated into all aspects of venue operations planning and execution, fostering an inclusive environment for both internal teams and external partners. This includes actively seeking opportunities to engage with and support BIPOC and underserved communities in venue-related initiatives, with a focus on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the event planning process.

Background & Requirements:

  • Past experience is a plus
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience (preferably at least 5 years in a leadership position) working in major event, facility management, hotel operations and/or other complex service delivery industry.
  • Proven track record of leading the planning and delivery of large-scale, complex operations across multiple project phases including contract negotiation, planning, readiness, and operation.
  • Skill working with senior executives and building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across multiple functional areas
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating contracts with venues, facilities and/or service providers.
  • Experience working within a complex, cross-functional organization
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral
  • Extremely detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • High EQ and strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record as a relationship builder
  • A high energy level, entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to manage through a period of growth and change

The annual base salary range for this position is $150,000.00 - $170,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
