KYA Services is Hiring an Estimator (Flooring) Near Santa Ana, CA

Position Summary – Flooring Estimators search for, analyze and accept bid opportunities based on KYA policies and procedures; perform quantity surveys, complete and submit bids. Flooring estimators use in-house and subcontractor pricing to deliver a qualified and complete flooring bid.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability to understand read plans and specifications with a concentration on flooring aspects of all bid documents
  • Understand the project requirements and develop an estimate that aligns with KYA company standards
  • Review construction documents and drawings to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
  • Understanding of labor requirements to include the correct costs for workforce compliance
  • Understanding of General Conditions and General Requirements
  • Familiarity with all types of flooring including all major manufacturer brands
  • Personally connects with subcontractors by calling to ensure adequate trade coverage when the need for subcontractors is necessary
  • Review and analyze all project documents to develop a complete and accurate bid
  • Knowledge and understanding of flooring removal and install processes including adhesive materials, moisture testing, floor preparation requirements, availability of materials and installation durations
  • Willingness to mentor and train new estimating staff
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry standard & KYA specific protocols
  • Utilize software programs to calculate total cost of projects efficiently and productively
  • Work with other departments within KYA to get input for the estimate
  • Prepare detailed reports outlining estimated costs and present to customers, clients, and upper management
  • Ability to complete bid schedules as required for inclusion of proposal documents and as a basis for General Conditions and General Requirements
  • Lead project handoff to Operations team
  • Update and maintain records of all estimates throughout the duration of the project
  • Monitor actual costs versus estimated costs and make adjustments as necessary
  • Attend pre-bid job site visits and meetings with clients as needed
  • Perform post-project analysis to determine areas of improvement for future projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in any construction or engineering related field or equivalent industry experience
  • 2 years experience as an estimator for a construction company preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with aptitude to learn new software and systems
  • Solid understanding of flooring methods, materials, and codes
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Excellent mathematical skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Advanced experience with computerized estimating systems, such as On-Screen Takeoff or Bluebeam Revu
  • Ability to complete takeoffs and estimates without the use of computerized systems and programs

  • The department works primarily at their desks most of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel
  • The employee is frequently required to talk or hear

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision
