The Role:

The Safety Manager will focus on plant safety, developing and implementing safety policies, and think outside the box to take the safety program to the next level. If you are someone who enjoys working independently as well as in a team environment this position will be just that. The Safety Manager will work with the Plant Operations team and Corporate H&S team to embrace our goal of a "zero harm workplace". If you enjoy rolling out programs, multi-tasking, being creative, taking on investigations, influencing decisions and helping drive our Safety goals towards a safety-first culture we want to hear from you. This position reports to the Plant Manager. The facility operates 24/7/365.

Your Day to Day:

• Directs the resources and activities of the facility to support the Health & Safety programs by providing advice and guidance to Management.
• Ensure the facility meets all local, state, and federal regulations and is properly permitted.
• Continually maintain an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge and preparedness across the facility to create a culture that prioritizes effective Health & Safety and balances overall associated costs.
• Review internal Health & Safety policies and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate; conduct hazard and risk assessments and change existing or develop new recommendations from these assessments.
• Serve as the location expert within the field of Health & Safety when called upon to address regulatory agency compliance issues, third party safety and liability consultants and other representatives as necessary.
• Leads or participates in incident investigations (injury, property damage, near-hit, environmental deviations, etc.) and root cause analysis, and works with the plant operations team to determine appropriate corrective/preventative action.
• Perform risk and hazard assessments/inspections to determine employee risk/exposure and suggest/drive actions to mitigate/reduce them.
• Responsible for the staffing and directing of the Health & Safety Department.
• Responsible for the development of an annual budget recommendation and implementation.
• Provide regular written reports, as well as other production-related results and updates to Management and Corporate Teams.
• Devise, supervise and coordinate training programs or media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote Health & Safety awareness.
• Actively participate in the scheduling of Safety meetings to communicate Health & Safety performance and policies.
• Address specific reporting and record keeping requirements of OSHA as well as other pertinent safety/regulatory compliance matters and to ensure that the location is in compliance.
• Oversight of the Health & Safety programs; Periodically review them to ensure they are accomplishing the desired results. Make necessary changes to the program to maximize effect.
• Stay current of current and emerging technical and professional aspects of this position.
• Attend industry related conferences as needed.
• This position manages department personnel and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of employees.
• Oversees the Radiation Safety Program, tracking of devices, maintain testing and compliance documentation.
• Work with the plant staff to proactively eliminate safety concerns and hazards.
• Work with plant nurse to assure that injured employees receive excellent care, while facilitating case management.
• Interact with Division and Corporate resources regarding Health & Safety programs, policies, and audits.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Engineering or related technical field
• A minimum of 7 years of experience managing employee health and safety programs.
• Advanced knowledge of manufacturing industry practices, regulatory agency requirements and industry standards.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent computer proficiency is required: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Ability to use a variety of software applications to analyze, monitor data, create reports, and presentations.
• Use of basic reasoning, thinking 'on your feet', and ability to resolve issues quickly with little or no direction from a superior. Ability to make good judgments and render good decisions.
• Ability to work well with upper-level management as well as the production workforce.
• Incident management and workers comp experience.
• CSP, CIH, CHMM certification (or similar) preferred.
• Leadership skills to direct personnel, implement initiatives, supervising teams, and performing follow-up activities.
• Analytical ability to assess complex situations and apply problem solving strategies.
• Ability to work independently.
