Requirements

Why consider joining Kitsap Humane Society?

- Enjoy a 4-day work week, working with a robust veterinary and shelter team who support work-life balance; prioritizing family time, vacations, and breaks to explore and enjoy life to its fullest.

- Enjoy a GENEROUS PTO PACKAGE including 2 weeks paid vacation, 2 weeks of sick leave and 11 additional paid holidays.

- Your focus will include:

· Providing leadership, supporting and empowering your team of 15 departmental staff including LVTs, veterinary assistants and CSRs, along with our dedicated team of clinic externs and volunteers

· Coordinating with departments across the shelter to ensure efficient animal flow during seasonal changes in shelter population, special events, etc. while also providing high quality medical and surgical care.

· Partnering closely with the Director of Veterinary Services to manage programs as well as to develop and meet budgetary goals. Make recommendations to the Director after assessing and identifying opportunities for improvement in workflow, practices, plans and decisions to ensure efficient, high-quality, and budget-conscious operations within the vet services department.

- Make a difference in your community by saving lives; finding homes for pets who are in need as well as keeping pets with their families whenever possible. Here at KHS we believe that income level doesn’t define a person’s ability to love their pets. We are dedicated to building a safety net for pets in need by providing urgently needed lifesaving care when owners could otherwise not afford it.

- Work alongside an amazing team of staff and volunteers dedicated to saving lives together, many of whom have been with us for 8-10 years.

- Start your time with us working out of a brand-new, 6,500sqft Veterinary Lifesaving Center which opened in the fall of 2023.

What does a typical day consist of?

- Participating in daily huddles and shelter rounds to coordinate care with departments across the shelter for pets in need and to help ensure efficient flow of animals from intake to adoption.

- Daily oversight of departmental operations and team including shelter medicine, surgery and community clinic functions.

- Coordinating urgent patient care, both internally within the shelter and externally for community patients in need.

- Maintaining relationships with internal and external partners including distributors, grantors, community veterinary partners; member of KHS Leadership Team, collaborating with other managers on operations, pathway planning, intake diversion, foster care, adoptions and more.

Who are we?

- KHS is a managed admissions shelter, the sole animal control contract for our county taking in all strays and owner surrenders all while maintaining a remarkable lives-saved rate of 96%!

- KHS takes in 5,000 animals and performs over 6,000 HQHVSN surgeries per year, 2,000 of which are reduced fee surgeries to pets from income qualified families.

- We believe that every single life matters and treat each pet like an individual. We never euthanize for space or treatable conditions and take in many pets other shelters don’t have the resources to treat, all while working within our means.

- Our mission is accepting, sheltering and rehabilitating companion animals in need; providing humane rescue, protection, adoption and education services; implementing progressive lifesaving and life-affirming programs; collaborating and partnering with our region and supporters to build a model humane community.

Along with a positive, productive work environment – where people have meaningful jobs, know what is expected of them, and work as a team to fulfill our mission and achieve our goals - KHS offers this position:

• Wage/Yearly Salary range equivalent of $68,000 - $80,000 DOE

• CE allotment of $1000/year to support professional development

• 100% coverage of health and dental insurance premiums for the employee.
