Job Type

Full-time
Description
Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) seeks to hire a full-time Veterinarian to join our 4 doctor team in our mission and vision to provide high quality care in a highly progressive animal welfare environment, focused on supporting pets in need and their families. We are located a ferry-ride away from Seattle, WA on the beautiful Kitsap Peninsula surrounded by Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, North Cascades National Park, as well as the beauty of the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands. Join one of the region's leading animal welfare organizations and become a part of an incredible team!
Why consider joining Kitsap Humane Society?
- Enjoy a 4-day work week, working alongside 4 other veterinarians who support work-life balance; prioritizing family time, vacations, and breaks to explore and enjoy life to its fullest.
- Enjoy a GENEROUS PTO PACKAGE including 3 weeks paid vacation, 2 weeks of sick leave and 11 additional paid holidays.
- Your focus will be providing excellent medical and surgical care for your patients, regardless of the owner's ability to pay. Our veterinarians are the ones making all medical decisions for our shelter pets while working within our means, and our reduced-fee community clinic is structured to provide financial assistance to those in need.
- Make a difference in your community by saving lives and keeping pets with their families whenever possible. Here at KHS we believe that income level doesn't define a person's ability to love their pets. We are dedicated to building a safety net for pets in need by providing urgently needed lifesaving care when owners could otherwise not afford it.
- Work alongside an amazing team of staff and volunteers dedicated to saving lives together, many of whom have been with us for 8-10 years
- Start your time with us working out of a brand-new, 6,500sqft Veterinary Lifesaving Center set to open in October 2023.
What does a typical day consist of?
- A typical community clinic day will include 6 hours of appointments, on average 2-3 per hour with an additional 2 hours of time reserved for medical record keeping and patient notes.
- A typical shelter medicine day includes morning rounds, evaluating new arrivals and established patients, providing exams for foster pets, and readying medical patients for adoption.
- A typical surgery day includes an average of 20-30 procedures including spay/neuter, dentals and common soft-tissue surgeries.
Who are we?
- KHS is an open/managed admissions shelter, the sole animal control contract for our county taking in all strays and owner surrenders, rescuing over 2,000 at-risk pets from other shelters nationwide each year, all while maintaining a remarkable lives-saved rate of 96%!
- KHS takes in 5,000 animals and performs over 6,000 HQHVSN surgeries per year, 2,000 of which are reduced fee surgeries to pets from income qualified families.
- We believe that every single life matters and treat each pet like an individual. We never euthanize for space or treatable conditions and take in many pets other shelters don't have the resources to treat, all while working within our means.
- Our mission is accepting, sheltering and rehabilitating companion animals in need; providing humane rescue, protection, adoption and education services; implementing progressive lifesaving and life-affirming programs; collaborating and partnering with our region and supporters to build a model humane community.
Along with a positive, productive work environment - where people have meaningful jobs, know what is expected of them, and work as a team to fulfill our mission and achieve our goals - KHS offers this position:
•Salary range $80,000 - $120,000 DOE
•100% coverage of health and dental insurance premiums for the employee.
•$10K of life insurance provided by KHS with optional buy-up.
•3 weeks of paid vacation and 2 weeks of sick leave.
•11 Paid holidays that include a floating holiday.
•Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility for full time employees
•Bereavement paid time for family and pet
•Employee Assistance Program
