Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) is a progressive animal welfare organization whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome homeless animals. Job Summary
Kitsap Humane Society’s Life Saving Assistant is a compassionate animal lover and team-player with strong people skills, attention to detail, sense of urgency and organizational skills. This position plays a key role in supporting all of our lifesaving departments, including Animal care, Admissions, Customer Service, Foster care and our Behavior Department. This position supports all departments in implementing progressive care, promotion, and placement for each animal as an individual to help KHS save as many lives as possible.
Requirements
Primary responsibilities include:
· Perform adoption counsels, review medical and behavioral information with adopters and ensure appropriate matchmaking for both the pet and adopter.
· Assist Adoption Department with transporting animals to off-site adoption locations
· Process adoptions including reviewing contracts and animal records with adopter, promoting sale of retail items, and taking payment.
· Respond to email and phone inquiries from the public.
· Assist the adoption department with promoting adoptable pets, including writing bios, taking photos and videos, making promotional posters and other displays
· Assist Behavior Department with completing dog behavior assessments as needed
· Provide dog walking support on scheduled walking shifts as needed
· Clean animal kennels, feed animals, move animals from one location to another within the shelter
· Wash shelter animals’ dishes and laundry
· Administer vaccines and other treatments for animals in KHS care
· Assist the Admissions staff with intake of strays and owner releases.
· Handle animals of all breeds, ages, sizes, and temperaments. While most interactions are with dogs and cats, staff must be comfortable interacting with all animals, including livestock, fowl, small animals, reptiles, birds and more.
· Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will:
· Be hard working and efficient and a team player
· Be a fast learner who retains new information easily.
· Have experience and comfort in handling cats and dogs of all ages, breeds, sizes and temperaments.
· Have demonstrated customer service experience and skills, including positivity, tact and sound judgment.
· Be outgoing and comfortable talking with members of the public.
· Be able to apply good judgment and decision-making skills on a wide variety of issues regarding Kitsap Humane Society policies and procedures.
· Be computer literate and have experience working with Microsoft Office, email and mobile devices.
· Be able to communicate respectfully and effectively with people of all backgrounds.
· Be approachable and open to constructive feedback and coaching.
· Be positive and open minded towards progressive animal welfare strategies and policies.
· Be able to understand and implement oral and written instructions.
· Have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and clean driving record.
· Be flexible around our scheduling needs. This position requires that you work one weekend day, and some holidays.
Ability to lift 50lbs or more unassisted.
