The Community Health Services Division of Public Health | Seattle & King County is seeking a Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) Float Medical Assistant to join our team!The Float Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting health care providers in our Public Health ambulatory care clinics and our Mobile Vaccine Clinic in South King County. The incumbent works as a paraprofessional performing delegated patient care functions under the clinical direction of a Physician, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or Registered Nurse and under the supervision of a site manager or Personal Health Services Supervisor (PHSS) and Float Pool Personal Health Services Supervisor. Medical Assistants work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary clinic team; perform administrative support duties, conduct education, and outreach activities; research various topics and information; and are expected to regularly adapt their role/tasks in order to maximize clinic efficiency and flow. Additional duties vary depending on the practice specialty but can include: sexual and reproductive health; immunizations; phlebotomy; medication administration; intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections; data entry into tracking system. This position covers work at our two primary care clinics as well as Sexual & Reproductive Health clinics and our Mobile Vaccine operations in South County. All our clinics serve low-income families (newborns to seniors) with medical complexity and social vulnerability, specifically homelessness. The multidisciplinary teams may include core public health physicians, ARNPs, Medical Family Medicine Residents, nurses, medical assistants, behavioral health specialists, nutrition services, interpreters, referral coordination, a full complement of admin staff and on-site insurance enrollment assistance. Our medical assistant team provide core, client-centered support to patients across all our public health services. This is a Term-Limited Temporary opportunity. Term-Limited Temporary positions are "at-will" positions but are eligible for benefits. This TLT is currently anticipated to last for eighteen months.This vacancy can also be filled as a Special Duty opportunity.For Special Duty Assignment interest, you must be a Career Service, Career Service Exempt or other regular (non-temporary) employee in King County who has completed their initial County probation. Work Schedule: Variable days which includes weekend work. The typical schedule varies and can be 8:00 am to 5:00 pm or 9am to 6pm, depending upon the assigned clinic. This position will primarily be assigned to the Kent Mobile Vaccine operations for the first 3-9 months and therefore will require Tuesday through Saturday shifts.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provide vaccine in community settings including in clients’ homes.Assist primary care and family planning providers with patient care; and coordinate efficient clinic flow by promptly rooming patients.Accurately perform diagnostic screenings and procedures such as; vision and hearing screening, EKG's, and record adult and child anthropometric measurements.As directed by a Physician and/or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, perform and process blood draws, administer medication and collect specimens.Provide basic health care messages and education on a variety of health topics including healthcare maintenance and prevention as well information regarding reproductive health, emergency contraception and pregnancy options, including abortion referral.Monitor, request, stock, and clean routine clinic supplies; maintain safety and cleanliness of examination/ treatment rooms and laboratory areas. This may include some bending, lifting, reaching, stooping, and moving objects weighing 35 pounds.Interview and accurately record client's medical, dietary, and social history, anthropometric and lab results and accurately enter patient information into health information tracking systems and chronic disease registries.As directed by a Physician and/or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, phone in prescriptions to pharmacies, schedule follow-up appointments and refer patients for specialty and/or follow-up care as needed.Utilize clinic practice management software to assist with scheduling, registering, and checking in patients for appointments.Attend training and responds to emergency situations within the clinic supporting health care providers and emergency personnel.Perform pre-visit planning activities, attend huddles.Assist with procedures.Administer vaccines, and single dose medications via the following routes: oral, subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular, intranasal.Preform phlebotomy.Perform CLIA waived lab tests.Document in EPIC.
