Compensation and Benefits:
  • Compensation: Starting pay rate of $17.25, actual wage will be adjusted based on experience.
  • Benefits: Full-time, seasonal position eligible for a season pass for employee/dependents and privileges at several other resorts. Several discount programs (i.e. food & beverage, retail/rental, tickets, etc.) also available.

Job Summary:
As a Trails Laborer, you will be responsible for maintaining ski and bike trails by clearing trees, brush, and other obstacles to ensure the safety and enjoyment of guests. You will work closely with ski patrol and resort management to identify areas in need of maintenance and implement appropriate solutions. This role is essential for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of guests at a ski and bike resort. By clearing trails of obstacles and maintaining optimal skiing and riding conditions, you will contribute to the overall success of the resort and help create memorable experiences for visitors.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following
  • Identify trees and other vegetation that pose a hazard to skiers, snowboarders, and bikers. Safely fell trees using chainsaws or other cutting tools according to established safety protocols
  • Clear debris, rocks, and other obstacles from ski and bike trails to ensure a smooth and safe riding experience. Repair trail surfaces as needed, including filling in holes and leveling terrain. Assisting bike crew with bike trail maintenance when requested
  • Clear brush and undergrowth from the sides of trails to improve visibility of hazards. Use appropriate tools and equipment to clear vegetation efficiently and safely
  • Conduct regular inspections of ski trails to identify potential hazards and maintenance needs. Report any issues to resort management and take appropriate action to address them
  • Assist with snow removal efforts as needed, including clearing snow from trails, lifts, and other resort facilities. Operate snow grooming equipment to maintain trail surfaces and ensure optimal skiing conditions
  • Maintain and repair tools and equipment used for trail maintenance, including chainsaws, brush cutters, and string trimmers. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as sharpening and replacing worn parts
  • Work closely with ski patrol, lift operations, snowmaking, parks and other resort staff to coordinate trail maintenance efforts and ensure the safety of guests. Working with other departments involves building bridges, constructing summer adventure center attractions, haying and seeding and more. Communicate effectively with team members to prioritize tasks and address urgent maintenance needs
Basic Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of chainsaw operations and safety protocols
  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labor in outdoor conditions
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
  • Certification in first aid and CPR preferred
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects and operate machinery safely
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience in tree cutting, trail maintenance, or a related field preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be willing to perform work in varying weather conditions, including cold temperatures, rain, snow, and ice
  • May be exposed to hazards such as falling trees, sharp tools, and uneven terrain
