Title: Nondestructive Evaluation Research Engineer (multiple levels)

Position Summary:

Midnight Sun Technologies is seeking resumes from qualified Nondestructive Evaluation Research Engineers at multiple experience levels (entry level through senior level) to support a Federal research contract in McLean, VA.

The NDE-REs shall be capable of setting up and conducting nondestructive evaluation and structure monitoring (SM) tests, operating common NDE tools and technologies, installing sensors and instrumentation, and operating data acquisition equipment in both laboratory and in the field

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Interpret or evaluate test results of all NDE/SM methods in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures; calibrate and operate NDE/SM tools and sensors.
• Examine concrete and steel structures, and evaluate material properties using NDE/SM techniques both in laboratories and in the field.
• Provide NDE/SM data analysis, visualization and interpretation and shall use visualization techniques to detect/map flaws and identify defects.
• Prepare high-quality reports on NDE/SM results; document NDE/SM methods, processes, results, and information;
• Analyze and evaluate test results and data to make decisions and solve problems.
• Develop research and testing plans and implement these plans in the field.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science and basic laboratory experience.
• Laboratory experience as an undergraduate research assistant in a laboratory, intern experience in a laboratory, or equivalent thereof.
• Understanding and familiarity with Civil Engineering standards and specifications like AASHTO specification, and NDE standards, like ASTM.
• Familiarity with bridge and tunnel inspection manuals.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to write publication-ready research reports as well as participate and present during demonstration projects, seminars, committee meetings, and workshops.
• Must be able to obtain/maintain security clearance and site access.

Preferred Requirements:

• Master of Science or Doctorate degree in Civil, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience planning, conducting, and reporting on NDE and SHM research of the type described herein.
