Title: Food Center Support Specialist

Status: Temporary, Full-Time

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reporting Relationship: Basic Needs Program Director

Program/Department: Basic Needs

Salary Range: $19/hour

Position Description:

A Food Center Support Specialist supports the daily operations of Keystones’ Community Food Center. This position serves as the initial point of contact for our program participants, building visitors/guests, and staff while maintaining a safe working environment for all.

This position will be based out of our Community Food Center and the anticipated hours will be from 8:30am – 5pm, with an adjusted shift on Wednesdays from 11am – 7:30pm.

This position is temporary in nature and is expected to last for 3 months and can end at any time.

Essential Functions:

80% - Participant Experience:

• Greet and direct participants and visitors at the food center, in a respectful manner.
• Manage food market participant line
• Distribute numbers to program participants in the order they arrive
• Pass out intake forms and assist participants with completion if needed
• Inform participants when capacity has been reached
• Provide additional resource information and food center schedule as requested
• Manage flow of participants to ensure safe and efficient service
• Monitor and address guest behavior to ensure a safe environment for all including de-escalation of conflicts that may occur
• Provide respectful customer service

20% Other duties as assigned:

• Assist with Food Center operations such as helping in the warehouse when the market is closed
• Provide coverage for staff breaks and absences
• Performs other duties as assigned in order to accomplish agency objectives

Qualification Requirements

• Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
• Experience with de-escalating situations in a busy environment
• Ability to provide clear direction and instruction to building guests
• A respectful and assertive personality when working with program participants and co-workers

Qualification Preferences

• Previous work experience in security, crowd control or related position
• Fluency in a language other than English (Spanish, Hmong, Karen, or other)
• Completion of de-escalation or conflict management training

Physical/Mental Requirements

• The ability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground level to shoulder height and to bend and twist while lifting.
• Mental requirements include excellent verbal and written communication abilities to professionally and respectfully interact with Keystone staff, program participants, and other community providers.
• Equipment/technology requirements include experience using the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), and online databases.
